"On your six," Lucifer pointed out.
Hermione looked at him briefly, but then realization hit her, she just shook her head, turning around and walked ahead of him to look at the clearing.
They walked for about five more minutes, deep into the crisp, biting wind, until she finally picked out an old wooden bench and stepped forward to clear off blanket of snow. But before she could sit down, Lucifer slid onto the frozen wood himself and caught her by the waist, pulling her straight onto his lap.
She let out a sharp yelp of surprise, suddenly finding her bum sitting on his lap. If her face wasn't already red from the bitter December cold, it definitely was now after his arms snaked around her midriff, locking her tight against his hard chest.
"L-Lucifer, th-that's not f-f-funny!" Hermione stammered, her heart racing against his palm.
"I'm not laughing, pet," he smirked wickedly into her ear, holding her firmly in place.
"Let me go!" Hermione struggled against his iron hold on her waist. But his strength was vastly superior to her biology, so chances of her breaking free from his grasp were nil.
That didn't mean her stubborn pride wasn't going to try. She vigorously struggled in his arms for a few long minutes, but he wasn't relenting his hold on her a single inch.
"Gonna have to try harder than that, Hermione," he teased.
"I am trying as hard as I can!" She said loudly, her chest heaving as she glared over her shoulder.
"Granger? Hermione Granger?" A mocking voice suddenly called out from shadows off to their left.
Hermione stopped struggling instantly, and Lucifer's tight hold became non-existent as they both turned faces toward the source of the rude interruption. She didn't immediately recognize the three local teenage girls who had suddenly appeared before their bench. "Do I... do I know you?" she asked, her brow furrowing.
"Has it seriously been that long since Little Miss Know-It-All saw us?" the girl standing right in the middle taunted, her arms crossing over her designer winter jacket.
"Is your photographic memory not nearly as great as you always pretended it was back then?" the girl on their left sneered, letting out a sharp scoff.
"And who the fuck are you three supposed to be?" Lucifer asked, his voice dropping into ice. He recalled a brief, mention of the local 'friends' she had talked about that afternoon when his girls went to play Badminton in the Hogwarts courtyard, she also mentioned with her Mother over the Two-way mirror, about three childhood bullies who used to call her a vicious, friendless bitch.
Hermione stood up quickly from his lap, and Lucifer rose alongside her. The sudden change in the couple's posture didn't go unnoticed by the trio, eyes instantly widening as they took in the boy's imposing height.
"Who is the fit bloke, Granger?" the third girl whispered, her eyes onto his handsome features.
"Her boyfriend," Lucifer answered coldly before Hermione could even form a syllable.
"Yeah, right! Granger couldn't get a legitimate boyfriend if she tried her hardest," the middle girl said in flat denial, letting out a loud laugh. "She's far too bookish thoroughly unattractive, got that massive, buck front teeth, and she couldn't excite a man if her life depended on it. How about you leave her and come with me to somewhere a bit more quiet, handsome? I can easily show you a real good time."
The girl might have been physically attractive by common standards, but the cruelty with which she treated Hermione made her look hideous in Lucifer's eyes, "I'm terribly sorry," he said, a slow, predatory smirk spreading across his lips, "But I don't make it a habit to take cheap, used goods."
All three Muggle girls in front of them including Hermione herself, gaspped out loud at the blunt insult, onlookers might not believe it, but she was raised to be very well behaved girl at the Granger's, and used to talk politely, scrunching, tutting anyone at school who even mildly cursed.
"Loving books is one of the primary things I adore about her," Lucifer continued, his voice vibrating with a terrifying intensity. "Her soul is miles more beautiful than you three could ever hope to be, her teeth are cute, she excites me every second we are standing next to one another."
Hermione looked straight up at his profile, her heart skipping a beat as she wondered if her ears were playing tricks on her. Even with how passionately they had been behaving toward one another behind closed doors, she truly excited him that much? The validation instantly boosted her self-esteem straight through the proverbial roof.
"If you really are Granger's boyfriend, then prove it right now," the blonde girl challenged, her jaw clenching.
Lucifer turned his face to Hermione. Knowing what boundary line of explicit intimacy he wouldn't cross in front of watching eyes, he leaned down, captured her lips with his, and slipping his tongue straight into her mouth with a consuming passion.
To truly prove the reality of their bond to onlookers, his fingers reached out and slowly began unzipping her winter outerwear. Hermione opened her eyes in a wide shock, gasping directly into his mouth, but he held her body closer, their lips remaining tightly connected as the wind howled around them.
He stopped the kiss slowly when the middle girl started talking again, her voice shaking slightly in denial as Hermione hurriedly zipped her coat back up to her chin, "I... I can't believe it... how much gold did she actually pay you to do that?"
Lucifer turned his face back to the trio. "What's the matter? Can't handle the truth?"
"How much did she pay you to pretend to be her boyfriend?!" the girl screeched in complete denial. "There is no way a freak like Granger could get someone!"
"What is your bloody name?" Lucifer asked her, was becoming irritated dealing with petty human children, the reason he had been hesitant about going down to Hogwarts in first place.
"Nadine Summers," She answered defensively, flicking her blonde curls back over her shoulder.
"Well, Nadine Summers... I hate to break to your fragile ego, but I am profoundly in love with Hermione Granger. She didn't pay me a penny for my time, this isn't for a cheap show or pretending in front of you three, this is the most real thing she and I will ever have.... If your small minds can't accept, this conversation is over. You can fuck off."
Lucifer gave the girls a brutal ultimatum. Instead of waiting for their mouths to respond, he grabbed Hermione firmly by the hand and led her straight past the three girls, two of whom he didn't even know the names of, marching away.
He was not going to stand there and let his girlfriend be talked down to by anyone.
"Hey! Get back here!"
Lucifer heard the screech from right behind their backs. Before he could even turn around to investigate, he felt Hermione get violently jerked back. In his sharp peripheral vision, he saw the bushy-haired girl's left shoulder get grabbed by a hand, turning her body around.
Time itself seemed to have slowed down to his celestial senses as he spun around, his eyes taking in the sight of Nadine raising her fist, about to strike Hermione right in the face.
Before her knuckles could even make physical contact with his girlfriend's face, Lucifer's hand had shot forward like a lightning strike, grabbing Nadine by the throat and walking her backward at a blinding speed. She was instantly lifted straight up into the freezing air, her boots dangling off the ground before she could even realize how he had bridged the physical distance so quickly.
Lucifer was absolutely furious, his dark aura turning suffocatingly heavy. "You made the wrong choice, you little cunt."
"Y-You... you wouldn't... you wouldn't hurt a girl, w-w-would you?" Nadine choked out, her fingers frantically scratching at his iron-like grip around her neck.
"I would kill you right where you stand if your hand had touched a hair on Hermione's head," he whispered evilly, his crimson eyes glowing with a predatory, devilish light.
Nadine had a look of fear written across her wide eyes. Lucifer carelessly dropped her onto the snowdrifts, and she scrambled to feet in a panic, backing away into her friends, "You're fucking insane! You're a psychopath!"
A sudden howling of wind was heard in the silence as strong, freezing gales blew through the park trees, kicking up the white powder around his boots. "Attempt to attack Hermione ever again, Summers, and I'll show you what a psychopath looks like."
Nadine and her two friends, terrified that they had stumbled straight into a real-life horror slasher film, turned and ran for their lives through the park paths, screams echoing in the distance.
Hermione walked up slowly beside Lucifer's shoulder, her fingers sliding into his hand. "I think... I think you may have overdone the intimidation a bit, Daddy."
"Who were those girls? From your childhood, pet? From back before you attended Hogwarts?" Lucifer asked, voice smoothing out as he sought to confirm his suspicion.
"Yeah... Nadine was always the worst of the local group, though," She said softly, her voice dropping into a bashful, quiet whisper as they continued down snow-lined path, "The worst thing she ever did to me happened when I was only five years old... w-well... s-something I've never told you before... at one point in my childhood, Lucifer, I had no hair on head."
"No hair? What did the bitch do?" Lucifer asked her, his jaw clenching as his protective instincts flared.
"She cornered me behind the bins and deliberately caught my hair on fire with a lighter..." Hermione whispered, her eyes staring at the snow, "It wasn't nearly as long or thick as it is now, of course, but it was still longer than a lot of other girls my age... and after the flames were out, I was left completely bald and scarred for a week. But then, it suddenly grew right back to good length overnight, which suspected my parents... they almost took me straight to the local Church for an exorcism, if it hadn't been for my grandmother intervening... all because I was simply the smartest child in my age group, and the magic reacted to the trauma..."
Lucifer's dark eyes instantly began glowing a murderous, terrifying shade in the twilight gloom. He knew with a terrifying reality what would have occurred to her if Grangers had gone through with that Church ritual.
Either his brilliant girlfriend would have ended up like the tragic 'Obscurial,' Ariana or Credence Dumbledore, her magic twisted into a parasitic lethal force, or would have ended up as those broken kids Gellert showed pictures in the Great Hall, now he understood why she was so mentally triggered back in their third year after the Muggle Studies lesson.
"Did you know, there is a very special, torturous section in Hell reserved strictly for bullies?" Lucifer growled darkly.
Hermione let out a soft sigh, giving her boyfriend's hand a gentle, comforting squeeze to ground his rising temper. "I didn't let their cruelty deter my goals, though... it only reinvigorated my internal drive to be the best at everything. And until I met you... I was the undisputed best in our year."
Lucifer looked down at the white snow a bit shamefully, remembering his own dominance. "I am sorry about taking that spot from you..."
"Don't you dare be sorry," She stopped her boots on the path, tugged firmly on his hand to force looking straight down at her, "I knew there was no way I could compete with your scores after what happened in the first couple of years, Lucifer."
"That unique drive makes your human intelligence all the more special, Hermione," Lucifer countered, his voice soft and full of devotion, "I have no doubt your parents are as well, but you seem to be the most brilliant of your entire bloodline. You are the undisputed 'Brightest Witch of our Age', probably the most magnificent mortal I have ever encountered on this earth...." He trailed off, looking into her eyes, "Never lower your worth or your pride for anyone... not even for me."
"I've never had to do that with you, Lucifer, and I promise you I never will have to," Hermione whispered, as she stepped inside his guard, pulling his jacket lapels down to bring in for another chaste kiss. By now, after terms of sharing their private rooms, they had both gotten exceptionally good at smashing together, working their lips to make connection with more love between them ever before.
They had managed to migrate during their walk back toward a more populated public area of the park with other local people scattered around the clearing, but despite the season's frost, surrounding temperature suddenly got even colder as a freezing draft swept over the benches.
