The jewelry box is made of huanghuali wood, which is slightly lighter than rosewood; however, the contents of the box are not light. It contains a pair of jade bangles lined with black velvet, their color uniformly deep green. Although the craftsmanship is somewhat old-fashioned with a less-than-perfect polish, the surface is slightly uneven, lacking the transparent brilliance of fine jadeite.

In the past, due to limitations in mining technology, most of the jade stones that could be extracted were from the shallow layers, and their quality was generally coarse. One can see this by looking at the jade artifacts in the Qing Palace. Therefore, jadeite of icy clarity was considered the finest quality at the time.

Of course, there were extremely rare cases of glassy jadeite.
