The coliseum erupted. The noise was like a wave crashing, half triumphant roar and half anguished cry. The students of Abyssal rose as one, their chants echoing like thunder, the name of their prince shouted with the force of loyalty and pride.
Their voices shook the air, their fists raised high, their faces alight with victory. On the opposite side, the Lorehaven students fell into stunned silence, their mouths open, their throats closed. Some shook their heads in disbelief, some covered their faces, and others simply stared at the arena floor where their champion knelt in defeat.
Yu Jinzhen forced himself to move. His arms trembled as he pushed against his sword to rise, his body protesting with every motion, yet he stood. He sheathed his blade with hands that shook but did not falter. His head bowed, his shoulders heavy, he turned toward Rylen. With dignity that no defeat could take from him he lowered himself into a respectful bow.
