DEBORAH'S POV

I sat across from Isaac at the small corner table, my hands wrapped around my coffee cup to keep them from shaking. The cafe buzzed with morning conversations, but I felt like we were in our own bubble of tension.

Isaac leaned back in his chair, studying me with those sharp eyes that reminded me so much of his father. "So," he said, his voice carefully neutral. "You said you had information about my father's death."

I took a sip of coffee, buying myself a few seconds. "Before we get to that, I think we should talk about the bigger picture here."

"Which is?"

"The bigamy case. You know as well as I do that it's going to court now. And in a world run by men like the judges in this city, Elijah's going to have the stronger position."

Isaac raised an eyebrow. "Why would that concern me? I want him destroyed anyway, not protected."
