Ding-dong, the pleasant ringtone of the mobile phone sounded. Frans stopped checking the data, swiftly slid his index finger across the screen, and pressed the speaker button.
"Hello."
He spoke in a mature and charming voice.
Yuzuki Suzuko on the other end of the phone paused for a moment, and asked, "Where is Mr. Frans?"
"I am Frans. Please don't mind; this is an electronically synthesized female voice."
To prove his statement, he switched to a tranquil tone like a literary girl and tapped on the keyboard, "Has Chief Jack replied to the application I submitted?"
Yuzuki Suzuko thought about it and, too lazy to question or verify whether it was really him, since it wasn't anything confidential, said, "The chief is very busy right now. We'll talk about your issue when there's time."
The implication was a polite refusal of his visit to Institute No. 47.
Frans wasn't very surprised by this answer.
