When Xiu Xi returned, he was herding a group of livestock, a scene Ruan Jiaojiao hadn't seen for many years, and it still felt quite stunning to witness it again.
Also returning with him was Xiaobai, all dirty, as if he had rolled in the mud, hanging his head low, looking rather wronged.
Ruan Jiaojiao glanced at him and looked at Xiu Xi questioningly: "What's wrong with Xiaobai?" It felt like a mischievous child had been out playing and then dragged back home by parents.
Xiu Xi did not answer, but simply handed her a bright red, large fruit.
Under the dim light behind her, Ruan Jiaojiao struggled to make it out, only to discover that it was a huge pomegranate, a very large one that required both hands to barely hold it.
"Wow, are there pomegranate trees on the front mountain now?" Ruan Jiaojiao was delighted; although Xiaobai had brought back plenty of fruits over the years, he had never brought back a pomegranate, especially not one so large.
