With a precise motion, he inserted the needle again, not to inflict pain this time, but to interrupt the overstimulated nerve pathway. The effect was immediate. The invisible pain that had been ravaging the man's body abruptly subsided, and he collapsed onto the floor, panting heavily as if he had just escaped drowning.
His body still trembled uncontrollably, snot dripping from his nose as he slowly lifted his head to look at Zhane.
The fear in his eyes was raw and absolute.
It was as though he were staring at the devil himself.
Yet, despite the relief, he did not speak immediately. He merely stayed there, shaking like a beaten dog, his spirit clearly shattered but his mind still hesitating.
