CHAPTER FIFTY EIGHT: WHAT DO YOU WANT AS A BIRTHDAY GIFT?
"Happy birthday!" I heard as I prepared to go for lunch during break time.
I looked up to see Daniel
Why on my birthday of all days that I am seeing this idiot?!
"Thank you! I can't believe you remembered my birthday" I answered as I arranged my books in my bag and praying for Morayo and Victoria to be quick so we can go together.
"Why won't I?"
"Coming from someone who literally forgot me" I responded as I rolled my eyes and continued arranging my stuffs in my bag without looking up
"I already apologized and I thought you would have forgiven me"
"I have! I am just surprised you actually did remember my birthday"
"I am sorry, okay?"
"Thank you, at least. You remembered my day"
Suddenly I heard "Awwn!!!" from my classmates
"You are welcome!" he responded "Aren't you going to look up?" he asked looking at me
"Why?"
"Don't you like seeing my handsome face?"
"Lol! People have deceived you!" I said to him smiling and then looked at him, just to see a large gift box on his hands, my smiling expression changed to a shock expression
How come I didn't see it? Why did I miss not seeing it? What on earth?! Why will he gift me?
Many questions filled my head as I looked at him speechless
"Here! Happy birthday!" he said as he dropped it on my table
I touched it and felt an hard surface. He suddenly touched my hand, the hand that touched the box.
"Don't think of trashing it without even seeing its content" he said to me as he looked at me in the eyes.
"Urgh! You don't need to look at me like that and touch me" I said as I immediately removed my hand from the box.
"Okay, okay… Sorry! I will be pleased if you can accept it" he said as he put his hands in his pocket of his knicker
He gave me a smile and left
"Wow! He gifted you!" Morayo said as she ran towards me and, touched the box.
"Yeah, he actually surprised me" I shrugged out of amusement. "Where were you guys since?" I asked as I looked at Morayo and Victoria standing in front of me
"We were just waiting for him to leave after gifting you. We can't interrupt the moment" Victoria said as she pulled my legs
"I was actually expecting you guys to come earlier but anyhow sha" I responded and just removed the thoughts of it from my head. It has passed already
"Who knows what is in the box?" Morayo asked as she kept knocking
"Hey! Be careful! You don't even know what is in the box and you are knocking it like that and, it isn't for you" Victoria said to Morayo as she looked at her
"It is okay! It is not as if it is a special stuff though"
"Still…"
"Let's go and eat, I am hungry. You guys are buying the food since, today is my birthday" I stated as I stood up from my seat and kept the box in my bag
"What if they steal it?"
"Urgh… It is not that special" I said not minding what Morayo said
"Even though, a birthday gift is a special one even if it is from anyone" Morayo said as she took the box from my bag and held it along "Let's go!" she responded with a wink and we walked out of the class together

After break time, during leisure period.
I already had like three gifts from Daniel, Ayo and Victoria. Morayo decided to pay for whatever I buy at the canteen since, she didn't prepare any birthday gift
I sat on my seat reading a story book (short novel that they sell fifty naira or hundred naira in school) waiting for Morayo to be back. Victoria is busy talking to John about whatever.
"Didn't know today was your birthday" I heard a familiar voice say, I looked up to see who the familiar person was; only to be welcomed by a set of ocean blue eyes.
Samuel?!
"I didn't tell anyone" I answered still looking at him speechless "What are you doing here?" I asked him remembering that he is always busy with competitions.
"Just came to greet my friend" he replied as he sat beside me.
"You will receive shouting when you get back there"
"Nah, I am free for now till next week" he responded as he looked at the board as if reading something
"Oh..Okay! Lucky you!"
"Yeah" he answered nodding his head and then looked turned to look at me "I didn't get you anything on your birthday since, I didn't know" he added as he look at me with a serious face
"There is no need! How did you know today is my birthday?" I asked him surprised that he knew from someone
"Daniel, I heard it from him. He was telling my friend about gifting somebody he is closed to and blablabla. I asked him who the person was since I was curious and he mentioned your name" Samuel explained as he looked at me with a smile
"That explains it" I responded nodding my head as I turned to look away
"Happy birthday!" he greeted
"Thank you, I appreciate" I smiled
"How old will you be clocking?"
"Tenth" I answered with a straight face as I turned to look at him and then smiled
"You are still young"
"How old are you?"
"Clocked 12 last month"
"Last month?"
"Yeah, during the holidays. I wasn't at home. Celebrated it in Abuja"
"Oh…Okay! You are still young by the way"
"Not like you!"
"Yeah, I know!" I answered smiling
"Thank Goddness you do! You can't date at this age?"
"I don't know and I don't care" I responded with a shrug
"Now, back to your birthday"
"What about it?"
"What do you want for a birthday gift?" he asked as he looked at me with a serious expression
