Chapter 83 - V2 Chapter 30 Escalation

 _ _ _Davis Okoye Pov_ _ _

"Is that a..."

"Giant crocodile..."

Below us, as we flew through the now chaotic environment that was Chicago, a monstrously large entity pulled itself from the river that ran through the city. It roared, the sound alone shook the ground and the air around it as the beast dragged its truly massive bulk forward. It crushed everything in its path with mindless ferocity, its body covered in cancerous mutations and its more filled with row upon row of jagged and misshapen teeth.

The creature moved forward, trampling over everything in its path, almost completely unfazed by the military's attempts to slow it down. Bullets didn't penetrate its almost supernaturally tough hide and explosive shells from tanks and rocket launches barely even grazed it.

"This is getting out of hand." Kate muttered with a stunned look on her face.

"They can't stop them, they're all being torn apart down there." I hissed, watching as the wolf flung dozens of sharp quills from its tail which impaled several unlucky soldiers.

"We need to get to the Energyne building." Kate said, still looking in horror at the carnage below. "The antidote is our only hope at this point."

"Easier said than don-shit!" I yelped, sharply steering the helicopter we were into the side as what appeared to be a jeep of some kind was tossed through the air barely missing us.

A second later the jeep collided with a nearby building and exploded. (Damn it George.)

My dear friend, George, the now thirteen or so meter tall albino gorilla, the one who had seemingly tossed the jeep in question, glared up at us, his eyes bloodshot with rage and pain. For a moment I stared back, at least until a tank shell shot past him, something that caused him to roar before turning to the tank in question.

I watched him as he ripped said tank apart with ease, I watched as he and the other two mutants fought their way into the city and towards the source of the signal. I couldn't even put into words what I was feeling at that moment, this wasn't his fault, it wasn't any of their faults, not the crocodile or the wolf. In the end however, I was just thankful that all of the civilians had been evacuated.

"Do...do you hear that?" Kate suddenly said, pulling me from my thoughts.

"Hear wha-?" I was about to say when I heard it, a sound that sent a chill down my back.

It wasn't long before I saw them, the source of the slowly, growing noise that caused the air to vibrate as it steadily grew louder and louder. "Jesus..."

"Welp...that was far easier than expected..." I hummed as I walked into the Energyne building completely unopposed.

I was currently with Alpha, Beta and Gamma, the three imposing xenomorphs walking in behind me. I had expected at least some kind of opposition on my way here, but it appears I was being paranoid, not that me being paranoid was much of a surprise to anyone but still.

Anyway, as for my other xenomorphs, well, I had given them a different directive. They, along with the Yautja, were to target the city's infrastructure, more specifically they were to destroy the various internal support structures inside of the skyscrapers. The Yautja would plant bombs in strategically placed areas while the xenos would spew acid to destroy whatever they could.

Simply put, their mission wasn't to attack the military head on, in fact they were to avoid them if at all possible, they're goal was to spread chaos by bringing down whatever buildings they could after all. Of course, if they ran into trouble they were allowed to defend themselves, I actually expected that the Yautja would "commandeer" some skulls as they carried out their objectives, not that I had much reason to stop them.

"I could just take the elevator up but..." I muttered before glancing back at my three companions behind me. "Yeah, they definitely won't fit."

(I could go up the elevator shaft to get up that way, however Alpha, unlike Beta and Gamma, won't be able to follow me up, praetorians can't crawl on walls after all.) I thought with a slow shake of my head.

"Fuck it, let's just take the stairs."

And so we did, it was probably a somewhat comical sight to be honest, a tiny xenomorph queen and her three horrifying children slowly making their way up several flights of stairs. Anyway, about halfway up I got curious about what was happening outside, mostly because of the increased sound of gunfire and animalistic screeching, so yeah, I took a detour.

I could have just looked through the eyes of one of my underlings but couldn't really be bothered, so I exited the stairwell and entered into a hallway with the perfect view of the outside. What I saw was quite the sight indeed, and honestly, I felt kind of bad for causing the mayhem that was currently playing out in front of me.

<> Ashley suddenly spoke up through my hive mind.

<> I muttered back in response.

(I may have gone a bit overboard this time...) I thought as I observed the scene before me.

Just like in the movie, George, Ralph and the newly arrived lizzy were rampaging through the city, destroying anything unfortunate enough to be put in their way, however this time they quite obviously weren't alone. A massive black cloud of hovering insectoid bodies now covered a large outer portion of the city, it was big enough to block out the sun in that specific area.

Giant wasps swarmed above like a sea of bodies, occasionally dragging helpless victims into the air as they kicked and screamed before they were quickly torn apart limb from limb. Massive bats and birds flew between skyscrapers, some landed on the ground or stayed in the air to rip aircraft out of the sky. In fact some of the flyers even smashed and burrowed their way into buildings, clawing their way through said skyscrapers to reach those hiding within.

As for those on the ground below, well, giant crustaceans battled tanks and devoured infantry alive alongside other such giant mutants, like the gargantuanly long snake or the group of massive salamanders. The snake in particular was quite the hazard as it spat ungodly amounts of venom from its mouth that quickly seeped into the skin of all those unfortunate enough to be covered causing a variety of disturbing afflictions.

That wasn't even the end of it however, the carnage seemed to only escalate further as my followers and children followed out the task that I had given them. Soon whole buildings were collapsing out of nowhere, their internal supports destroyed by corrosive acid that melted through anything it came into contact with. Additionally, blinding flashes of blue plasma exploded all throughout the city, destroying roads, bridges and causing even more buildings to collapse.

(Yeah...I definitely went overboard...) I thought to myself.

Shaking my head and letting out a sigh I turned my attention inwards, to the connection that I was currently using to speak with Ashley. <

<> She answered immediately, the usual reverence clear in her voice.

<> I hummed before pausing for a second.

<> I muttered, making sure to emphasise the word "civil" as I spoke. <>

<> She hummed pleasantly but I couldn't help doubting her somewhat.

<> I tried to say but was interrupted when a nearby door slammed open.

"Huh?"

"Freeze motherfucker!" A male voice yelled as multiple guns were pointed at me all of a sudden.

<> I said as I looked at the group of Energyne security who were momentarily frozen by the sight of four alien creatures standing before them.

They had probably thought that we were just some random nobodies who had snuck in during the chaos outside in hopes of stealing whatever we could find, so their current reaction was understandable. They stood there, staring at me as well as the three giant xenomorphs standing just behind me, three giant xenomorphs who were flexing their claws, just waiting for permission to tear them to pieces.

"What the hell are those things?!" One of them finally said, breaking the rather awkward silence.

"They...they look familiar..."

"Who cares what they are?!"

"Errm...gentlemen?" I muttered only for them to freak the fuck out.

"The fuck!"

"It can bloody talk?!"

"Don't fucking move!" One of them, the most nervous looking of the group yelled.

"Why don't you all just calm down an-" i tried to say but was cut off when a bullet whizzed past my head.

"I said don't move!" He screamed but I hadn't actually moved at all, this nervous wreck of a man had just fired at me for basically no reason.

(Did he just fucking shoot at me?) I muttered internally, somewhat stunned. As for the three xenos behind me, well, they looked as if they were seconds away from going berserk.

"Buddy, you really shouldn't have done tha-" I tried to defuse the situation but at this point none of them were willing to listen.

"Shut the hell up you damn freak! Either you can do what you're told or I will blow your brains out, what's it gonna be?" The guy that had nearly shot me shouted once more, probably thinking that just because he had a gun that everything would go his way no matter what.

(I was trying to be nice, to be civil about this, to let them get out of this situation alive, so that I don't have to bloody my hands anymore then I need to today but...but it seems that that's no longer an option.) I thought with a slow shake of my head.

"Red, please, give them my response." I breathed, letting out a long, cold breath.

<>

Before the guard could get another word out the glass window next to us suddenly shattered as a loud bang echoed out from far off in the distance. The guy had just enough time to slightly turn his head to the side before his lower jaw was then blown off in a gruesome display a second later. A fact that caused large amounts of crimson fluid to splatter all across the back wall, a few drops even managing to somehow land on my head and face.

The bastard froze, his hand moving up to his mouth in disbelief, grasping at the air where his jaw used to be a moment before. He tried to scream in pain, keyword being tried, unfortunately all that came out was a wet gurgling noise as blood poured from the horrific wound in large amounts. A second later and another bang, in an instant the rest of his head followed suit, exploding like a water balloon.

"Motherfucker!"

"Sniper!"

"Get to cover!"

"What fucking cover?! Where in a empty hallway for fucks sake!"

"You know...I'm getting really, really sick of the colour red..." I sighed, glancing out of the broken window as I wiped the blood from my face. "Like seriously, it's...it's not even funny at this point..."I muttered as I sent a pulse through the hive mind causing the three xenomorphs behind me to screech in rage and charge forward. "Oh well, at least...at least the weather is nice today...silver linings and all that..."
