Dongling is located in the eastern part of Dayong, bordering the sea, with several low mountains within its territory. The people of Dongling rely on the sea and the mountains for their livelihood, living better than those in Dayong and Xiliang.
However, this has only been the case in recent years. Twenty years ago, the fishermen of Dongling relied solely on going out to sea to fish, then taking their catch to the market to exchange for grains or wild game from the mountains.
If it was a good year, some villagers who relied on farming could spare some grains to exchange for fish and shrimp. But in times of drought, it was hard to gather enough grains to feed their families, let alone exchange for fish to improve their diet.
This meant that fishermen could only live on fish for a long time without tasting grains.
People eat grains; constantly eating seafood would be unbearable, so the people of Dongling did not live comfortably in the past.
