Gu Qingyuan played a crucial role in Gu Xiaonuan's childhood, that of a father.
But this role should have been fulfilled by Lu Xiao, who at that time was unaware that he had another daughter.
His affair with Shen Biran was deeply buried in his heart, almost never to be recalled again.
Yet now he must do so, for if he doesn't, he cannot attain the answer he seeks.
Thus, despite Shen Biran's deceit, Lu Xiao forgave her; he could forgive her while also facing a dreadful realization—he could forget all his previous principles before his daughter Gu Xiaonuan.
He might have been considered cold-hearted in the past, but before Shen Biran, he truly entertained such thoughts.
If Gu Qingyuan could change his mind and let go at this moment, that would indeed be the best outcome.
But if he cannot let go, how should he solve the immediate problem? Therefore, the current possibilities are limited.
Shen Biran has been worrying from the very beginning whether this day would come.
