Ranni took a deep breath and received some final hugs from her mother. It was a little dramatic, but I understood the nerves.
Tetsuya and Kay were gone, having promised to find us later.
Inside the house was more of a quiet party, a stark contrast to the revelry outside. A string quartet played softly; there were fancy appetizers, champagne, and mostly adults, all in the exact same black tuxes, talking and dancing around the cleared room.
My parents were tucked away in the corner with Remy, talking with a woman I'd never seen before. My father's smile was very different than the one he usually wore. Interesting.
I took Ranni's hand, and her mother, Katarina, walked closely behind us.
