Chapter 314 - Fusion
"Young people today have no respect for old," Azazel grumbled, his tone heavy with mock self-pity.
"I'm practically bleeding from this favor."
"You realize how much trouble you've caused by interfering," Mahiro shot back, his voice sharp with disdain.
"One favor is letting you off easy."
Vali had been whisked away through a spatial channel, and Mahiro had no clue where he'd been taken.
His plan to seize Divine Dividing was ruined, with the completed main quest as his only consolation.
The loss was done, and Mahiro wouldn't dwell on Vali.
While he had anticipated the potential of a fused Sacred Gear from Divine Dividing, he wasn't fixated on it—it wasn't his only option.
Still, at that moment, he wanted nothing more than to throttle Azazel for meddling.
But causing a scene now would undermine Sirzechs and Serafall's efforts and wouldn't undo the loss.
Better to make Azazel compensate him.
"Vali's a worthy rival, at least. Competition drives progress," Azazel offered, his dry laugh betraying the flimsiness of his excuse.
His intervention had disrupted the fated clash of the Two Heavenly Dragons, reverting it to the inconclusive pattern of the past.
"I don't need a loser for a rival," Mahiro said coldly.
"I prefer crushing threats before they grow."
"Ouch, that stings," Azazel replied, a touch of guilt in his voice.
"Fine, I owe you a favor. Need help later? I won't say no."
Mahiro nodded at Azazel's commitment. "Deal with your opponent first."
With that, Mahiro ignored Azazel, descending to the ground where fragments of the White Dragon Emperor's armor lay scattered.
The area was a ruin from the battle, a no-go zone for the Three Factions' armies and the Old Satan Faction's mages, who kept their distance.
Relieved that Mahiro had dropped the matter, Azazel returned to his battlefield to face Katerea.
Katerea sneered at Azazel, her mocking laughter cutting through the air.
"The Governor of the Fallen Angels, sentimental over a devil mongrel? Pathetic."
"Spread this story, and you'll be a laughingstock," she taunted.
"Laugh while you can—it's your last chance," Azazel retorted, unfazed.
Katerea's expression twisted with rage.
She unleashed her full demonic power, fueled by Ophis' borrowed strength, in a desperate final assault.
Vali and Creuserey' defeats had pushed her to the brink, and she aimed to drag Azazel down with her.
Mahiro barely registered Katerea's scream behind him as Azazel ended her.
In Balance Breaker, Azazel's Down Fall Dragon Spear made him one of the strongest below transcendents.
Defeating Katerea, even with her Satan-Class power from Ophis, was effortless.
Mahiro picked up a piece of the shattered armor.
Item: Fragment of White Dragon Emperor's Armor
Quality: C
Effect: Contains a fraction of Divine Dividing's abilities.
"System, can these fragments be restored?"
[Yes.]
"How, and how many points?" Mahiro pressed.
[100,000 points for basic restoration, 300,000 for intermediate, 1,000,000 for advanced]
The system answered.
[The restored Sacred Gear's quality depends on the restoration. Higher brings it closer to the original.]
Mahiro checked his panel.
After his travels, his points exceeded 1,000,000.
Since returning to the DxD world, his points had been steadily climbing.
Tonight's events would likely boost it further.
Points weren't an issue, but the cost was steep.
"Use advanced restoration," Mahiro decided.
[Deducting 1,000,000 points. Restoration commencing.]
The fragment in Mahiro's hand glowed, drawing all nearby pieces like a magnet.
In a burst of light, they reformed into Divine Dividing, then shifted, condensing into a pair of light blue wings.

Item: Divine Dividing (Incomplete)
Quality: B
Effect: Possesses most of Divine Dividing's abilities.
Note: Lacks Albion's sealed soul, preventing Juggernaut Drive activation.

Mahiro nodded, satisfied.
Spending 1,000,000 points for a B-rank item was a bargain compared to the lowest A-rank items, which cost as much.
This Divine Dividing was visually impressive and only half a rank below the original.
"B-rank, just below the original. I wonder what fusion will produce," Mahiro mused.
This was an unexpected gain.
Vali's escape had left him frustrated, but the Incomplete Divine Dividing eased that regret, offering a viable fusion candidate.
Other Longinus weren't worth pursuing for now—acquiring them would be difficult, and their compatibility might not match this version's.
"Fuse it," Mahiro said, activating the Sacred Gear fusion card.
