Chapter 190 - Chapter 189 — The Timeline Without a Name

Chapter 189 — The Timeline Without a Name

The silence inside Stark Tower was no longer normal.

Tony stared at the three vanished options on the screen.

World A.

World B.

World C.

All gone.

For several seconds, neither Tony nor Yiping said anything.

Then FRIDAY spoke.

"Sir."

Tony sighed.

"That tone usually means something terrible."

"I believe you should look outside."

Tony walked toward the window.

Yiping followed.

The city was still there.

New York had not disappeared.

The buildings had not collapsed.

People were still moving through the streets.

Cars continued driving.

Everything looked normal.

Almost.

Tony narrowed his eyes.

"FRIDAY."

"Yes, sir?"

"How many Stark Towers do you see?"

There was a brief pause.

"One, sir."

Tony smiled faintly.

"Good."

Yiping looked at him.

"That's not good."

Tony's smile disappeared.

"Yeah. I know."

Because Yiping could see them.

Not one.

Not two.

Dozens.

For a fraction of a second, the city outside split into different versions.

In one, the sky was dark.

In another, Stark Tower had never been built.

In another, alien ships filled the sky.

In another, Tony Stark was standing on the roof wearing a completely different armor.

And then—

Everything returned to normal.

Yiping's system appeared.

[WARNING]

Timeline stability decreasing.

Branch formation uncontrolled.

Current convergence: 15.9%

Classification: UNKNOWN

Yiping stared at the last line.

"That's new."

Tony glanced at him.

"What's new?"

"The system can't classify the timeline anymore."

Tony looked at the empty screen.

"So we broke it."

"No."

Yiping shook his head.

"We broke the system's ability to tell us what the correct timeline is."

Tony considered that.

"That's worse."

"Much worse."

Somewhere else in New York, a man sat alone in a small café.

He had been watching them.

Until now.

The Observer slowly lowered his cup.

His expression had changed.

For the first time since they had encountered him, he looked genuinely worried.

A transparent interface appeared in front of him.

TIMELINE CONVERGENCE

15.8%

14.6%

13.2%

11.9%

ERROR

His eyes widened.

"No."

Another message appeared.

ORIGINAL TIMELINE STATUS: UNAVAILABLE

He stood immediately.

"No, no, no..."

The interface changed again.

PROTAGONIST IDENTIFICATION: FAILED

WORLD CLASSIFICATION: FAILED

CANONICAL EVENT IDENTIFICATION: FAILED

The Observer clenched his fists.

"They weren't supposed to do this."

A voice suddenly came from behind him.

"Do what?"

The Observer froze.

He slowly turned around.

Nobody was there.

He looked around the café.

Everyone continued drinking coffee.

Nobody seemed to have noticed him.

But the voice came again.

"Did you really believe they would follow the choices you gave them?"

The Observer's expression became serious.

"You."

A shadow appeared on the wall.

It had no face.

No body.

Just a silhouette.

"You have been interfering for too long."

The Observer took a step backward.

"I was trying to stabilize the timeline."

"No."

The shadow answered.

"You were trying to restore your preferred version of it."

The Observer remained silent.

After a moment, he replied:

"You don't understand what happens if the timeline completely loses its structure."

"I understand perfectly."

The shadow disappeared.

"And that is why you should stop."

The Observer's eyes narrowed.

"You think Tony Stark and Yiping can survive what comes next?"

There was no answer.

The Observer looked toward the window.

His expression hardened.

"They cannot."

Back at Stark Tower, Tony was already moving.

"Okay."

Yiping looked at him.

"Okay?"

"Yes."

Tony grabbed his jacket.

"We've established three things."

He raised one finger.

"One: someone was trying to force us into choosing a timeline."

A second finger.

"Two: we refused."

A third.

"And three: reality apparently doesn't like improvisation."

Yiping almost smiled.

"That's one way to describe it."

Tony walked toward the elevator.

"So we find the guy."

Yiping followed him.

"Which guy?"

"The Observer."

"We don't know where he is."

Tony pressed the elevator button.

"We know something about him."

"What?"

"He keeps watching us."

The elevator doors opened.

Tony stepped inside.

"So let's give him something worth watching."

Yiping raised an eyebrow.

"What exactly are you planning?"

Tony smiled.

"I have absolutely no idea."

Yiping stared at him.

"That's concerning."

"I prefer the term innovative."

The elevator descended.

But after several seconds, the display began behaving strangely.

Instead of showing floors—

It showed dates.

2012.

2015.

2018.

2023.

UNKNOWN.

Tony stared at the display.

"FRIDAY?"

"No system malfunction detected."

"Then why is my elevator showing dates?"

"I don't know, sir."

Yiping's system activated.

[Temporal interference detected.]

The elevator stopped.

The doors opened.

Tony looked outside.

It wasn't the Stark Tower lobby.

It wasn't even New York.

There was only darkness.

And in the middle of that darkness stood a single door.

Yiping's expression became serious.

"Don't open it."

Tony looked at him.

"Why?"

"I don't know."

Tony nodded.

"That's good enough."

He reached for the door anyway.

Yiping grabbed his arm.

"Tony."

Tony looked at him.

"If we keep waiting for explanations, we're going to run out of time."

Yiping released him.

Tony opened the door.

The moment they stepped through, they found themselves standing in a massive empty room.

Seven people were already there.

Yiping immediately recognized them.

The seven anomalies.

They were standing separately, confused and defensive.

One of them looked at Tony.

"Where are we?"

Tony looked around.

"Honestly?"

He sighed.

"I was hoping one of you knew."

Nobody answered.

Yiping's system appeared again.

[Seven anomalies detected.]

[Spatial coordinates unavailable.]

[Temporal coordinates unavailable.]

[Dimensional coordinates unavailable.]

[Current location: BETWEEN STATES.]

Yiping's eyes widened.

"Between states..."

Tony looked at him.

"What does that mean?"

"It means we're not inside a normal timeline."

The lights suddenly turned on.

A huge circular symbol appeared on the floor.

And above it—

A single sentence appeared.

YOU WANTED NO TIMELINE.

Tony looked at Yiping.

"That sounds accusatory."

Another sentence appeared.

THEN BUILD YOUR OWN.

The seven anomalies looked at one another.

Yiping's system immediately began producing warnings.

[EXTREME WARNING]

[A new timeline is attempting to form.]

[Origin: Unknown.]

[Authority: Unassigned.]

[Protagonist: None.]

[Canonical structure: None.]

Tony slowly smiled.

"So..."

He looked around the room.

"Someone just gave us an empty world."

Yiping shook his head.

"No."

Tony looked at him.

Yiping stared at the message.

"This isn't a gift."

The lights flickered.

The final message appeared.

THEN LET US SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN NO ONE IS THE PROTAGONIST.

The room went completely dark.

And somewhere beyond the boundaries of every known timeline—

The Observer smiled.

For the first time, he wasn't afraid.

He was waiting.

Because this was exactly what he had wanted to see.

What happened when a story no longer had a predetermined hero.

And whether that story could survive on its own.

To be continued...
