Chapter 1 - C1-TBD

"Weak"

"Useless"

"A nobody"

That is what Sae heard his whole life. Wherever he went, people would comment on him. Why wouldn't they? He could not use magic properly nor he had no powers, he was just a pathetic, little weakling.

Today was the day Sae would get to choose what he would become. He had a very important interview for admission in one of the most famous and prestigious universities.

This, however, did not change the fact that Sae was a sleepyhead.

The loud alarm went off in the messy, but organised room. A little light entered through the curtain gaps as the sun rose. Book piles layed all over the place.

Sae got up and sat on his bed, groggy.

"Why did I set up an alarm?" He muttered as he tried to remember. "Whatever, must be a mistake."

Sae turned off the alarm, and went back to his peaceful slumber. All he wanted was sleep after him practicing for the interview today. Interview.

"S#!T"

He got out of bed at lightning speed as he checked the time again.

10:00 am.

"Oh s#!t."

Soon, his room turned into chaos as he hurried to be ready for the interview. It was in an hour and thirty minutes. He could not be late.

Sae took out his brush and brushed as he took out a fresh pair of clothes and bathed. How was he so dumb to turn off an alarm on a day like this.

He ran out of his house and took a bus. Sure, it would be expensive, but it would be the fastest, given it could fly at high speed with little problem.

He took out flash cards from his bag, revising for his interview.

Sae was nervous. Actually terrified. It was not the same nervousness as someone giving an interview. It was something else. Sae hated speaking to complete strangers. He would always stutter, and say something embarassing.

If he could just attend the university after he passed the entrance exam, it would be so good, but life does not work that way. He had to do something he was the worst at.

In reality, this was the least of his worries. The bus stopped halfway through. Sae panicked.

"What happened?" He asked, sweats dripping from his forehead, "Why did we stop?"

"I apologise, but it looks like one of the mana cores is malfunctioning." The conductor said with a sad face. "You have to go to your stops on your own. I am extremely sorry."

The last line was spoken directly to Sae. The conductor and Sae actually knew each other quiet well. This was due to Sae's extreme habit of waking up late. He had to always take the bus to go to school.

It took 2 full years of dedication to even pass the entrance exam. Failing here would bad. The conductor knew this, but he could not do anything.
