Max found Kincaid in one of the smaller courtyards beyond the Sanctuary market.
The god sat beneath a tree with a cup balanced on one knee. He had chosen a place close enough to the main paths to watch people pass without becoming part of their business. Max had seen him there before.
Max sat on the opposite side of the table.
"You look as if you brought a question." Kincaid said.
"I did." Max replied. "You know most of my history. I know pieces of yours."
"A dangerous imbalance."
"How many champions did you choose before me?"
Kincaid did not answer immediately. He looked toward a group of children following a courier golem until the golem stopped and politely instructed them to clear the road.
"Enough to learn that choosing well and guiding well are different skills." Kincaid said.
Max waited.
