As Nightmare Leon fled desperately while being relentlessly pursued by Leon, the nine major and twelve minor layers of the Dream Realm, totaling twenty-one, along with the countless living beings residing within, collectively faced an exceptionally dark day.
Often, one would hear a deafening crash, and from either the sky or the earth or somewhere else, a gigantic rift would suddenly be torn open, pouring down a black river filled with countless broken nightmares. Anyone caught in it would be forcibly turned into a Nightmare.
Immediately afterward, a crazed person with terrifying strength would surge out of the river and begin to ravenously devour, regardless of reason. If they caught someone who hadn't yet become a Nightmare, they would even dunk them into the river, waiting until they turned into a Nightmare completely before devouring them.
