When Lord Bane sought to challenge the power of the Guardian God Tom, he killed all the assassins of the realms, and these assassins were loyal believers of the Lord of Murder, further weakening Bal's divine power.
After the failed challenge of Bane the Lord of Strife, who was subsequently destroyed, Bal formed an alliance with Milkau.
The two sought the Destiny Tablets to return them to Ao, so as to free themselves from mortal constraints and return to their God Kingdom.
After a pursuit across the entire Felen Continent, Bal kidnapped the current Magic Goddess Midnight, who was still in mortal form, and seized one of the Destiny Tablets, but was immediately murdered by Shylock with the Divine Calamity Sword, incarnated as the God of Thieves Mask.
Just north of Baldur's Gate, near the Winding Water, it is said that the essence of Bal, the God of Murder, was absorbed by this river, poisoning the waters from the Boareskyr Bridge to the Troll Claw Banks.
