HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE 🎇🎆
The moment we reappeared, the scent of incense and burning candles filled my nose.
Eternal Paradise Faith.
A grand temple, lavish yet eerily empty, stood before us. Intricate golden designs adorned the towering pillars, depicting scenes of 'salvation' and 'paradise.' Soft hymns echoed in the air, sung by devoted worshippers who kneeled in perfect rows, their eyes glazed over in fanatical reverence.
And at the center of it all, lounging lazily on a throne, was Doma.
He looked exactly as I expected—bright eyes filled with empty mirth, his golden hair pristine, not a single strand out of place. He rested his cheek on his palm, a sickeningly sweet smile gracing his lips.
The moment he saw us, his brows lifted in interest.
"Oh?" Doma hummed, tilting his head. "Now, isn't this a surprise?" His eyes flickered toward me, and his smile widened. "You… I recognize you. You're the one who stopped that terrifying lady from rampaging through the castle."
He was, of course, talking about Shalltear.
I smirked. "So, you do remember."
Doma chuckled. "How could I forget? Such a powerful presence. A true monster among monsters. I couldn't help but wonder—just what kind of being could stop her?"
He leaned forward slightly. "Tell me, what brings you to my humble temple?" His gaze flickered toward Shinobu for a brief moment before returning to me.
He didn't recognize her.
To him, she was just another Demon Slayer.
But I knew better.
I turned to Shinobu, whose hands clenched into tight fists. Her breath was slow and controlled, but I could feel it—the raw, burning hatred she kept buried deep inside.
I placed a hand on her shoulder and leaned in slightly.
"Fight him," I whispered. "Fight until your hatred and revenge are fulfilled."
Shinobu trembled slightly beneath my touch, but she nodded, her grip tightening around her sword.
Doma let out a soft laugh, standing up from his throne.
"So, I assume you're here to kill me?" he asked, amusement lacing his voice.
I shook my head. "Not me."
Doma raised an eyebrow.
I gestured toward Shinobu. "She is."
For a moment, Doma just blinked.
Then, he burst into laughter.
"Oh, oh! That's funny!" He clapped his hands together, shaking his head. "For a second there, I thought you were being serious!"
Shinobu's eyes darkened.
"You think it's impossible, don't you?" she said, her voice quiet but venomous.
Doma smiled. "Oh, it's not that I think it's impossible—it is impossible!" He let out a dramatic sigh. "You're so small, so frail. Even your sword—so thin, like it could break at any moment. What could you possibly do to me?"
Shinobu didn't answer. She simply took a step forward.
I decided it was time for me to handle the background distractions.
Raising a hand, I cast a subtle wave of charm magic over the room.
The worshippers—all of them—suddenly stopped their chants, their eyes clouding over. Without a word, they turned and began exiting the temple, leaving the three of us alone.
Doma's eyes followed them curiously before shifting back to me.
"Oh my, how fascinating," he mused. "You're quite an interesting man, aren't you?"
I ignored him and turned back to Shinobu.
"It's morning," I reminded her. "If you can force him outside, the sun will handle the rest."
Shinobu's lips curled into a small, dangerous smile. "I see."
Doma, of course, just kept grinning.
"And what will you be doing?" Shinobu asked, narrowing her eyes.
I smirked. With a flick of my wrist, I summoned a comfortable seat and plopped down onto it.
Then, I reached into my inventory and pulled out a large bucket of popcorn.
"I'm watching your fight," I said with a grin, popping a handful into my mouth.
Shinobu let out an exasperated sigh.
Doma, on the other hand, just smiled wider.
"Oh, now I'm interested." He stepped forward, eyes shining with intrigue. "Well then, little Slayer, shall we dance?"
Shinobu's fingers tightened around her sword.
Then, she moved.
Her speed was incredible—light, graceful, but purposeful. She darted forward, her small frame making her movements almost impossible to track. Her sword glimmered as it sliced through the air, aiming directly for Doma's neck.
But Doma, despite his carefree demeanor, was no fool.
He dodged with ease, twisting his body just enough to avoid the lethal strike.
"My, my," he chuckled. "You're quite fast!"
Shinobu didn't respond. Instead, she pivoted, using the momentum of her missed strike to launch another attack—this time, aiming for his chest.
Doma deflected her blade with his closed fan, his movements fluid and effortless. "But you lack strength," he mused. "Your strikes are like a butterfly's wings—delicate, beautiful, but ultimately harmless."
Shinobu's expression didn't change, but I could see the fire burning in her eyes.
"Then let's see if a butterfly's poison is just as harmless," she said coolly.
