Chapter 4 - magic !

When a small tattoo on the old woman's hand began to glow, a green light came out of her hand and wrapped around the infection on my uncle's arm.

I was staring with full attention at the magical event taking place in front of my eyes, when I heard my mother's soft laughter.

"Look at how carefully my sweet baby is watching. Maybe when he grows up, he'll become a great magician."

How could I not watch something like this carefully? There really is such a thing as magic in this world. It might seem normal to you, but this is not normal.

After the green light coming out of the old woman's hands touched my uncle's shoulder for a while longer, the old woman let out a breath, closed her hands, and made the light disappear.

"My girl, why didn't you come to me earlier when something like this was going on? The wound has gotten very bad. If you had come earlier, I could have dealt with it more easily. For now, let the young man stay at my house. I'll continue the treatment for another day or two, and then we'll see each other."

"I'm sorry, Granny, but no matter how much I told him, I couldn't convince my stupid brother. He kept insisting that he was fine, saying over and over that it was nothing and it would pass after a little rest, and he wouldn't come."

"Hahaha, that's how youth is, girl. Don't blame your brother either. I've seen all sorts of things from young people his age."

I had been expecting that there was no way to treat it and the whole leg would have to be cut off. Then I saw a green light magically appear and make the wound much better, and I learned more about the reason why this world's first aid knowledge was so backward.

It was as if the door to a new world had opened for me today. I had met a new thing called magic, and it had interested me greatly. Magic, even just saying the word excites a person. When I remembered some of the television programs I had watched in my previous life, I decided that I would learn this thing called magic in the future.

-------- ( one month later )

After that night, Alberto stayed with Granny Pharmacist for a few more days, and when he came back, the wound on his shoulder had healed completely, and even the hole in his shoulder had closed.

About 1 month after the incident when my uncle came to our house injured, I happened to find a chalk stone. I immediately seized the opportunity and tried the thing I had been working on for a long time.

The only book in our house was a strange holy book that could be seen as this world's Bible or Quran. Of course, that wasn't very important to me. The only thing I was interested in was the writing on this holy book.

I would approach my mother while she was reading the holy book and pretend to be having fun like a child listening to a fairy tale. That way, I could watch her read for a long time, and through this I learned which sounds in spoken language the letters on the holy book corresponded to.

Luckily, the language of this world resembled the Latin alphabet used in the country I lived in during my previous life, apart from a few extra letters. All I had to do was learn which sounds the letters corresponded to, and reverse-encode which sounds came out first when I said a word. Before long, I learned in theory how to write my name, but there was a problem. Since I was reborn, I had never once seen my mother or my father write anything.

Today, while I was playing in the garden, I happened to find a chalk stone on the ground. After I went home, at the first chance when my mom wasn't looking, I managed to scrawl my own name on the wooden floor of the house with great effort. Right after I managed to write my name, I received a notification from the system saying my task was completed, and I immediately used my hand to wipe the writing off the floor.

It would have been quite nice if my family had accepted me as a genius for writing at such a young age, but since I was only 5 months old, I saved that plan for later. Also, from what I learned in a movie in my previous life, the greater the talent, the greater the responsibility. To tell the truth, I am a complete lazybones. If possible, in this world, I'll use the knowledge of my previous world to become the boss of my own business and be lazy all day long.

[Congratulations, main task (learn to read and write) completed

Mission completion rating : A

Mission reward : unlocking the ability to control the system with the mind, and the system AI

Extra reward : Blessing potential + 10]

What does blessing potential mean, I wonder?

The moment I asked myself this question with my thoughts, a new system screen opened in front of me.

[Blessing potential* ; Many years ago, on a planet called Silvoria, there lived a goddess who was not satisfied with the slow development of humanity. One day, with an idea she thought was magnificent, this goddess decided to bless all of humanity. From that day on, whenever a person reaches the age of 5, they go to the church and receive a blessing. Thanks to this blessing, people's bodies become able to use the energy unit called mana, and some lucky people can obtain extra gifts from the goddesses and gods of this world]

Wow, so this thing is the system AI, huh! Alright, let's try asking another question.

How old am I right now?

[You are 0 years old right now]

That really is the kind of answer an AI would give. Someone who truly had intelligence would have selectively ignored my question and told me I was 5 months old.

[Congratulations, repeating task (get stronger) completed

Mission completion rating : C

Mission reward : physical growth + 3]

Hmm, so this task's time ran out before I noticed. I guess the physical training I did wasn't better than C level, even for my age. Since I'm always under my mother's or father's supervision, I can't focus on my physique.

If I had been born as an orphan with no family, I could probably have shown much better physical growth on the streets. Of course, why would I want to be an orphan when I have a beautiful mother? I've already been an orphan once, and it wouldn't be fair to be an orphan again.

Speaking of which, I'm hungry, and what a coincidence, I think my feeding time has come.

Waaaaaaaa, waaaaaa!
