Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Library

Arcadia Magic Academy

Yuki woke up on the bed at the boy's dormitory.

Who would've known I was going to have a full-time job instead of a normal high school?

I wonder if all of my classmates are doing okay. I wish them the best of luck. Oh, I also forgot that time travels here more quickly so it will be like nothing happened once I travel back to Earth. I hope my parents don't think I'm going out somewhere without their permission.

Never mind that! I don't think it's a problem if they don't know I'm gone!

He got up and decided to start his day by taking a shower and brushing his teeth. It was already Monday, so school should've started by now.

He was also gifted a robe in dark blue, such as the ones in the administration held. The other instructors had worn all-white colored robes and the students had colors matching the year that they're currently in.

After completing his morning routine, he proceeded to get dressed in his formal attire. He took great care to ensure that his appearance was neat and professional as he was getting ready for his shift at the local library where he worked as a librarian.

The instructors had all met Yuki already and were acquainted with each other, so he knew where to go in terms of location.

He arrived at the library and got to work.

The instructors gave him an outline of what he had to do.

In summary - assist any student in need of navigation through the library's catalog or provide research assistance.

That was all he had to do for the day; wasn't that awesome?

On top of that, the pay was pretty good- 1 copper coin per hour!

But the best of all was... the books!

While spending his free time, Yuki can indulge in reading a plethora of books, all while delving into the world of magic and its intricacies.

The one thing that piqued his curiosity was the 'forbidden section' of the library. The other instructors also warned him never to look at those books. Either way, he could still live a comfortable life here, even without the care of his family present.

Yuki got up from the librarian post and began searching through the books from which he needed to learn magic.

'Beginner's Guide on Magic' and 'Novice Spellbook: Elementary Magic'

were the books Yuki had chosen as his starter reads.

I don't think cultivating is the path I can take right now. Over the past couple of days, he realized that he, himself had terrible cultivation talent and barely absorbed any qi in his room resulting in no breakthroughs at during the past few days. His status was the same as it were 3 days ago.

After hours of reading and dealing with the transactions regarding the students' needs, he finally had a grasp of how magic worked.

In this world, magic was considered a fundamental force of nature, intricately tied to the synthesis of magicules. These magicules were a ubiquitous resource present in every aspect of daily life, and were responsible for enabling the use of magic. However, Yuki had a theory that the reason why he was unable to harness any magic when he was at Earth. It was due to a lack of magicules in his own world. This unknown scarcity prevented him from tapping into the magical energy that surrounded him during his days on Earth.

"Now I can actually test out magic; simple and basic Elementary Magic should do."

There were a list of spells written in the book, and by chance or coincidence Yuki had found out about an ice spell that seemed to curry his imagination.

As Yuki was flipping through the old book, his eyes came across a list of spells. He felt a sudden rush of excitement as he saw an ice spell that caught his imagination. Eager to try it out, he prepared himself by focusing his mind on the magicules around him. With his eyes closed, he took deep breaths and felt his body fill with energy.

"Ice Barrier!"

The shield manifested itself in the form of a solid wall of ice, stretching to the size of his body. Despite its simplicity, the barrier was highly effective, capable of withstanding any projectile aimed at him, ensuring his safety.

After a while, he realized that the shield wasn't dissolving and feared that people might see him using magic inside the library. Yuki quickly tried to hide the shield in the corner of the room but to his unfamiliarity with layout of the library he accidently entered the forbidden section of the library.

[1. Read one of the books in the forbidden section of the library and ignore the rules and warnings of the instructors. You can obtain S-class lightning affinity]

[2. Alternatively, cultivate in secret and stay low-profile until you reach 4th level of the Qi Refinement Realm, you can unlock the panel 'Simulation' from the System.

Yuki was not tempted at all by the first option.

He was not going to ignore the words of the principal and instructors only to lose their respect deep down inside. He thought that this would be immoral and discouraging to his current job as a librarian.

I can't do this, the principal has already graced me with the chance to live here. Breaking the rules simply isn't the way I should do things.

"This is not the path I need to walk on," Yuki said while pretending to act more like a cultivator.

"I'll choose the second option again," with determination Yuki left.

"Once the shift hours are over I will bring the ice barrier with me outside of the school and leave it somewhere else." Yuki was determined to follow the rules and do what was called righteous.

I may have broken a rule in the library though. I'll make sure to only use magic once I'm either on the training grounds of the school or when I'm in a safe location to do so.
