Chapter 393: I Am an Evil Being? No—It Is the Human Heart!
"What a joke!"
Hearing the voice from the heavens above, the black mist let out a cold laugh. "What right do you have to call me an evil being? A threat to this universe?"
"In terms of origin and status, I am the earliest lifeform in this universe. In terms of strength, which one of you so-called God Kings can rival me? Since that's the case, where do you insects get the confidence to speak this way?"
In this world ruled by the law of the jungle, it truly couldn't comprehend how these beings dared to say such things. If anyone had the right to make such a statement, it would be itself—after all, it had existed since the birth of the universe.
The origins that came later—gods, soul beasts, humans—every one of them appeared after it.
"If I'm not an evil being, then who is? Could it be you?" the five God Kings refuted in unison, clearly sharing the same view.
"If I am to be called an evil being, then what about your so-called Evil God King, Destruction God King, and Asura God King?"
"Not to mention the Goddesses of Life and Kindness—just those three alone, which one of them didn't step over mountains of corpses and rivers of blood to become gods? Which one of them, in the hearts of the people, actually represents justice?"
At this point, the black mist's tone grew even colder. "Human nature is evil at its root. I've existed in this world for countless years, seen more people and events than I can count. I can say with certainty: the first evil being in all of heaven and earth was not me—it was humanity."
"Humanity?" Not only the five God Kings, but even Kong and Xuedi in the distance revealed confused expressions.
What was that supposed to mean?
"Since the birth of the universe, there existed only the primal origin and self-formed matter of the cosmos. There were no so-called evil beings as you define them."
As if finally finding listeners, the black mist continued unhurriedly, "Think for yourselves. The term 'evil being,' the concepts of darkness and calamity—weren't they first spoken from human mouths?"
At these words, everyone fell into contemplation. It really did seem that way.
"If that's so, then let me ask you—what exactly is an evil being?" The black mist raised its gaze to the divine realm above the heavens, then turned toward the nearby God King of Thunder.
"Wife Ei. Wife Shogun. What do you two think?"
Kong fell silent. After a moment, he turned to ask his two wives.
"We don't know."
Soon, two cold and clear voices replied.
Hearing that, Kong exhaled. This question was truly impossible to answer.
If killing is the measure, then whether soul master or soul beast, as long as they've cultivated, who hasn't taken a life?
Even so-called evil soul masters were only branded with that label by the Spirit Hall across generations. The only real difference lies in the means and nature of their killing.
"You see, not even you can explain the reason."
The black mist chuckled softly at the scene, then continued indifferently, "You call me an evil being merely because my existence poses a threat to you. Beyond that—what reason do you truly have?"
At this point, black light surged within the black mist's eyes, and even its tone became incomparably serious.
"I can tell you clearly: although I am the oldest lifeform in existence, and I wield the purest origin of darkness, I am not the so-called first evil being. The true first evil being—"
"—is the human heart!"
As the words fell, heaven and earth trembled. Countless laws echoed in resonance, as if cheering for this declaration of primordial darkness.
The human heart—is it truly the first evil being in all creation?
In the distance, Xuedi and Bingdi nodded with agreement.
Back when humans did not yet exist, there were wars, yes—but those among beasts were the purest kind of conflict, devoid of manipulation or schemes.
Look at the world now. With the rise of humanity came plots, tactics, and strategies. It was through these that humans leapt from the bottom of the food chain to its peak, becoming a dominant species with no equal.
This shift was driven by the heart and soul of humanity—shaped and refined through countless experiences.
Human nature, at birth, is rooted in evil. When humans are born, before being educated or influenced by societal rules, all of their actions are governed by instinct and subconscious impulse.
They might, out of curiosity, commit irreparable acts—and even afterward, feel no guilt or fear. For they do not yet comprehend consequence or cost.
It is only through later growth, learning, and experience that laws and norms come to restrain those inner impulses.
Prejudice within the human heart is a mountain that cannot be moved, no matter how hard one tries.
Take soul beasts and humans for example—is true love between them even possible?
Perhaps—but barely. Almost never. In the eyes of each side, there's always the belief: "Those not of my kind must harbor ill intent." And after so many years of bloodshed, the hatred between soul beasts and humans has long since seeped into their very bloodlines.
For humans to grow stronger, to rise above others, they must hunt soul beasts to obtain spirit rings. And when strength differs greatly, that's when human cunning reveals itself.
This—this is why the black mist dares to say: the first evil being in this world is the human heart.
"What's the point of telling us all this? Are you trying to say you're afraid of us?"
Returning to the present, the Asura God was the first to speak after recovering from the shock of those words. "The universe is in an era of peace. We absolutely will not allow you to bring chaos, slaughter, or destruction!"
"You think too much. I'm merely defending my name."
The black mist remained calm, without a trace of emotion. "So what if I live? So what if I die? I was born of chaos. If you think you have the power, then come—try to kill me. But if you don't—"
"—then don't blame me."
With that, the black mist struck first. Endless origin of darkness surged around its body.
The already pitch-black sky was instantly torn open. That most ancient and pure devouring force—born of primordial darkness—revealed itself to all of heaven and earth, without concealment.
In that moment, whether it was Haishen Yuyuan Zhen on Sea God Island, or Bibi Dong within the Spirit Hall, both sensed something was terribly wrong. They immediately stood and sped toward the Far North, wanting to know what had just occurred.
"Come then, newly ascended God King of Thunder—let me see how you compare to today's God Kings... and to the Dragon God of old!"
As it finished speaking, the black mist unleashed its dark origin power and launched a direct assault at the young man ahead.
