That's right, Noah has said nonsense like that.
Lincoln dream before SE;TA was to be a marine biologist or a farmer, even in those times Noah said those words, that he'll study sea animals or live as a farmer if Lincoln did.
An image of Noah going around saying those words to his and their friends appears. Maybe Noah really means it, it's not like him to lie for years straight, but to him who sees a career choice as something serious, Lincoln doesn't understand his friend who carelessly declares that he'll be this or that as long as someone else will be.
Does he not have his own ambitions? There's a line to be drawn when living in the presence, friend.
They have 2 years left of their teenage years, their age right now gives them a lot of time to work towards SE;TA, however it's different when it comes to school. After high school there's more school to go through but in order to go to those schools depends on how they'll do in high school.
What really matters is high school, they'll have to go through an even rougher path if they don't get through high school with the required results for the schools that'll make things somewhat easier.
And besides that, it's not like they're attending some institution known for its intelligent students, no, they're attending a public school that they won't overlook if Lincoln and Noah have average grades.
Should he start doing some out of school revolutionary project instead? In that way if he'll still suck at science in 2 years time, at least they'll consider that he has a mind of some type of genius.
As if he can even create and execute a revolutionary project anyway.
"Quit it."
Lincoln muttered behind his hand that cascade down his face.
"It's the truth, I love you that much."
"Gross."
"Talking about you, what's going on with you and Tulip?"
"Tulip and I?"
The unexpected name has Lincoln stop his hand amid going through his black waves of hair.
"Yeah, Tulip and you. Piper told me she saw you and some girl down the lake, you were with Tulip, am I right?"
Biting the flesh of his cheek, Lincoln clucks his tongue and looks someplace than Noah's gaze.
"I told her it was nobody she knows."
"Long brown hair, pale skin flushed on the elbows and knuckles, on top of that they were wearing a yellow nightgown."
"What? Piper described that much to you?"
"No, I asked my own fair share of questions. Tulip, is she- no, are you guys dating?"
Lincoln who was looking anywhere but Noah turns to him, his eyebrows scrunched up in a frown and his cheek that he prevented to turn red flushes at his question.
"Are you going to continue talking nonsense? Don't have Piper delude you with her gibberish. Seriously."
"I'll have her delude me rather than believe your lies when your face speaks more truth than you are right now."
There isn't a mirror to see how bad it was, but no one can say anything against that, himself too who's aware his face gives away more than he'd like it to.
Noah seated before Lincoln resting his head against the palm of his arm that stands upright supportingly, the tilt of his head and lips that curl upwards scoffing at him.
"Why lie to me, did the two of you have no plan of telling me? I don't understand the point, won't you tell me?"
Keeping his cool against Noah, Lincoln unravels his tensed eyebrows and grumbles, expressing his dislike of his pestering.
"We're not dating, I'm not lying. Don't say those words to Tulip, she'll think I said that instead of you even if you say otherwise."
Pft.
The hand that held Noah head slipped down to cover his mouth that made an explosive sound.
"Ha ha, what does that mean."
Wiping his eyes that had tears forming, Noah sits up against the wall facing Lincoln.
"Okay, let's say I believe you that you two aren't dating. So what are you then?"
"Who says-"
"I know you two have something going on. Two nights away for a cat, and Piper saw you and some girl at the lake after I saw Tulip go down to the lake? Don't joke with me Lincoln."
Noah's face that didn't show any annoyance finally dims when Lincoln continue to brush off his accusations.
"You two may have some type of relationship, but that doesn't alter the truth that I am practically her brother, and as a brother, I feel inclined to know of this relationship of youse"
Listening to those words and being unable to laugh for the sake of Tulip has Lincoln struggling. If Tulip knew of those words and who it was spoken by, her unwavering expression that is persistent before Noah years of rejection would've crumbled down and wail just as she did that day.
Unable to tolerate prolonging the conversation after the image fell upon Lincoln, he stands up, the chair screeching behind him.
"Listen to yourself, Noah."
"Don't act as if you know things when the most obvious is placed before you yet you overlook it like a blind man."
Although Lincoln has more to say, he said what was needed to be said and walks away. The class that went silent when the conversation was too loud and interesting to ignore, gawk at the two and each other. Lincoln reaches the door opening it and pass by their teacher returning from the restroom.
"Lincoln? Wasn't that Lincoln?"
The teacher Lincoln dismissed questions the quiet class and they shrug, just as confused and flustered as their teacher, not knowing what transpired between the close friends to have them argue that way.
Noah left alone in their two person desk, blankly stares at Lincoln chair that's now empty.
"Dude, what was that? 'Tulip', you guys arguing over a flower or a girl?"
The two classmates that sits behind Noah whispers, their interest apparent. To them who hasn't thought of the idea Noah isn't in the mood to gratify their noisy selves, tenses when noticing Noah's intimidating appearance.
"Uh, nevermind. We're not that curious."
Hunching their shoulders, the two back away their leaning figures as far as they could.
