Chen Jingbo watched Lu Hechen's departing figure and tugged at his lips. Lu Hechen indeed showed magnanimity, but this was a cemetery, and today was the day Shen Weilan's father was being buried. Even if he wanted to make a joke, he knew better than to choose this place.
"My condolences," Chen Jingbo spoke again.
Weilan turned to look at him and said, "You've said that already."
Chen Jingbo sighed. "All I can say are those two words."
Weilan nodded.
Indeed, at a funeral, what else can one say?
"I didn't expect your dad to go so soon..." Chen Jingbo started but then didn't know how to continue, feeling that saying so was perhaps inappropriate.
Understanding what he meant to say, Weilan finished for him: "Didn't expect him to pass away so soon, right? Yes, I thought we had at least a few more months. But... he still left. Maybe death was the best relief for him; at least he's free from pain now."
Chen Jingbo looked at her and asked, "Are you okay?"
