Chapter 148 - His loneliness

The shade of the sun had softened.

It was nearly time for the moon to claim the sky.

Jaxen sat on the hospital bed, his back pressed lightly against the headboard. His gaze lingered beyond the window, past glass and concrete, somewhere far off. His mind refused to wander anywhere except that one thought.

"I wonder when you will be back to see me, Lav" The words slipped out, barely louder than breath.

No one had told him yet.

He was still a man waiting blindly, holding on to hope she would walk through the door. Then, the door slid open, sudden and forceful, jolting him from thought.

Jaxen turned, expecting Oliver. But the moment he saw who it was, his body stiffened.Oliver never entered like that. Of course it wasn't him.

It was her.

Florence.

The woman who had given him life, and made sure every moment after felt like punishment. "Who let you in?" His voice sharpened instantly, cutting through the quiet.
