Grandma Kara's eyes flickered with sadness, though her smile never faltered. I quickly steered the conversation away. "Can you tell me more about your son, Granny?"

She tilted her head. "Why are you so excited all of a sudden, dear?"

"Well… I just want to know what my senior is like," I said, trying to sound casual.

She chuckled softly. "Ever since we moved here, he wanted to try something new. So he looked for work. And guess what his first job was?"

"Let me guess—carpenter?" I said, obviously.

"You guessed it right! But here's the funny part: it was his first day, and he was tasked to build a simple house. And what did he build? A mansion! A freaking mansion! Hahaha!"

I couldn't help laughing along with her.

"And so then—" She kept sharing stories, one after another, until finally the food arrived.

"Let me help you with that," I moved quickly, taking plates stacked high with different dishes and setting them neatly on the table in one swift, practiced motion.
