Chapter 7 - The Return of the Son (The Second Loss)

The Mastery of Light:

A few months passed—a period of intense, focused training where Cristino's grief was finally channeled into disciplined strength. The loss of the FATHIUM core to Siren had been a profound setback, but it instilled a new, fierce humility in the young warrior. He was no longer motivated solely by revenge, but by the duty to protect what little light remained.

Under Cemin's relentless tutelage, Cristino finally achieved mastery over his inherent FATHIUM. He learned to telepathically call upon his grandmother, Michelle, using the enchanted locket she had given him—a device capable of projecting his consciousness across the realms. He kept this new ability secret, a private connection to his past and a comfort during the long, lonely nights of training.

One afternoon, during a solitary meditation, Cristino felt a sharp, metallic spike of distress through the locket. It was Michelle's signal—not a routine call, but an alarm. She was in trouble.

Without consulting Comm or Cemin, Cristino made a decision fueled by guilt and necessity. He used his newly mastered FATHIUM to teleport to Earth. The instantaneous shift was jarring, but the sight that greeted him in his grandmother's simple English home was far worse.

The English Ambush:

Michelle and Daniel, frail and aged, were huddled together in the living room, their faces etched with terror. A group of Dark Embracer thugs, easily identifiable by their crude, smoky armor, had them cornered.

"We found the old woman and the man," one sneered, his voice guttural. "Where is the FATHIUM core, hag? Aries wants it now."

Cristino burst into the room, his white FATHIUM suit shimmering. "Leave them alone!" he roared, a brilliant, focused beam of FATHIUM energy erupting from his hand, vaporizing two of the assailants instantly.

The remaining thugs turned, startled, recognizing the distinctive, powerful light. They knew they were facing the warrior who had single-handedly broken their last offensive.

The battle inside the small house was a frantic, destructive chaos. Cristino fought with cold precision, driven by the memory of his first failure in Matero. He would not lose another family member. He was faster, stronger, and more lethal than before, utilizing telekinetic bursts and sonic waves of light.

A Sacrifice is Made:

As Cristino pushed the attackers back, Daniel saw an opportunity. The thugs were distracted by the sheer ferocity of Cristino's attack. Daniel, remembering his duty as an old Embracer, and knowing the need for escape, made a fateful move. He created a small light shield, sacrificing his life force to cover Michelle's escape.

A Dark Embracer leader, noticing the sudden shield, turned and struck Daniel down with a massive, crushing blow to the chest. Daniel collapsed, his last breath a whisper of Michelle's name.

"No!" Cristino screamed, the agony of the second loss ripping through him. It was a failure compounded, a life sacrificed because he had come too late.

Michelle, distraught, fell to her knees beside Daniel's body. Just as the Dark Embracers moved to grab her, a second wave of light flooded the room. Comm and Cemin had followed Cristino's massive FATHIUM signature, teleporting to Earth to reinforce him.

The Price of Vengeance:

Comm immediately engaged the remaining thugs, dispatching them quickly. Cemin ran to Cristino, who was kneeling over his grandfather's body, his face frozen in shock.

"You came back for them, Cristino," Comm said, his voice heavy. "But you cannot fight this war alone."

Cristino looked up, the light in his eyes not of FATHIUM, but of burning retribution. He gently placed his grandmother in Comm's care.

He turned toward the Dark Embracer leader who had struck the killing blow. The leader was a woman, her face scarred, her armor thick—the former Dark Embracer chief now reporting to Siren. She had taken over the old leadership structure.

"You kill my grandfather, you kill my parents, you destroy my home," Cristino's voice was dangerously low, vibrating with FATHIUM power. "I am done playing with the Dark."

He raised his hand. The full, unrestricted force of his mastered FATHIUM was unleashed—a blinding, continuous white blast. The leader screamed as the power consumed her, turning her and her men into dust.

Siren's Ascendance:

Comm rushed to Cristino. "You killed her! That was the last of Aries' old guard! Siren is now officially the leader of the Dark Embracers!"

The realization hit them both: Cristino's necessary act of revenge had inadvertently elevated the true threat—the cunning, insidious spy who held the stolen FATHIUM core.

Comm took Michelle away, giving her solace and promising Daniel's proper ceremony. Cristino remained, staring at the empty, smoking patch where the Dark Embracer leader had stood. He was no longer a civilian-in-training. He was a killer, a protector, and the ultimate target of the new, more dangerous enemy.
