It was unfortunate. There were just some things that Sylas couldn't do on his own, and he was very well aware of that. But since there was an opportunity to be used, he thought he might as well use it.
When Sylas deduced the importance of Karma and Luck to the gathering and the arrangement of the Sanctum branches, he also realized why it was the Thryskai were so interested.
The Emperor Sanctum was probably in the wrong place at the wrong time.
They were in a situation where their gathering was coming up soon, and they were likewise under the same Heaven as the Thryskai, not to mention the fact that many of their branches had become intertwined with many of the Thryskai Mortal Clans.
There was little they could do about the timing. If they delayed, the Thryskai would only be in a better position to take advantage. This was the best way to minimize the damage.
Unfortunately for them, Sylas existed, and he wasn't their biggest fan.
