Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 Don't Inquire About What You Shouldn't Ask

Yunyi naturally wouldn't acquiesce to her wish. "Whatever you have to say, say it here. I have other matters to attend to and can't afford to go home just yet."

Indeed, seeing Sun Xiaoyan reminded her of something important. The original Yunyi was about to go to the countryside for work; how could she possibly let the Sun Family benefit?

Sun Xiaoyan was infuriated but couldn't afford to dwell on it. She lowered her voice and said, "My Third Brother has gotten into trouble and has been taken into custody. Could you please find someone to bail him out first?"

Yunyi feigned surprise without lowering her own volume. "What happened? How did he end up being taken into custody?"

Sun Xiaoyan's face alternated between pale and flushed. "It's all a misunderstanding. Don't ask about it now. If we wait any longer, who knows what kind of suffering he'll endure in there."

Yunyi sneered inwardly. Asking for help but refusing to tell the truth? You've been spoiled rotten. "If I don't know what the matter is, it's difficult for me to ask for help. Since you're reluctant to say, I won't insist. You should find someone else to assist you."

Upon hearing Yunyi's words, Sun Xiaoyan became frantic. "Yunyi, how can you ignore my Third Brother like this?"

Yunyi looked at her with a sardonic smile. "Why should I bother? Who is your Third Brother to me?"

Sun Xiaoyan was momentarily left speechless. That's right. Because Old Master Chu disliked her third brother, and her own family didn't want the neighbors to think they were scheming against the Chu Family, the relationship between her third brother and Chuyunyi had never been made public. Even when her third brother occasionally visited the Chu residence, it was always under the pretext of visiting her. If she were to reveal their relationship now, probably no one would believe her. People might even think she was deliberately trying to bully Yunyi, an orphan girl.

Yunyi was determined to make the state of their non-relationship crystal clear in front of all the neighbors. That way, she could prevent them from coming around and disgusting her. "I still have things to take care of, so I'll be going now."

By the time Sun Xiaoyan recovered from her daze, Yunyi was no longer in sight.

She was left alone amidst the murmurings and derisive looks of the onlooking neighbors.

Outside a certain small courtyard, a jeep stopped. A middle-aged man dressed in a black Zhongshan suit and black leather shoes stepped out. He glanced left and right before striding into the yard. Ignoring the other people in the courtyard, he headed straight for the main house.

Someone inside hurried forward, fawning, "What brings you here, sir?"

The man spoke in a suppressed voice, "Sun Lao Liu, is everything arranged?"

Sun Lao Liu's face was eager to please. "Rest assured, everything will be done exactly as you said, without any issues."

The visitor's gaze sharpened at his expression. "Do as I instructed. Don't try to be clever with me. If anything goes wrong tonight, none of you will be staying in Beijing."

Sun Lao Liu's heart tightened. He nodded and bowed. "It won't, it won't! I, Sun Lao Liu, wouldn't dare play two-faced games with you."

The man gave a cold HUMPH. "Good that you understand."

After the man left, a new subordinate entered the room. "Big Brother, who is that guy? He orders us around and is so arrogant?"

Sun Lao Liu glared at him with malice. "Don't pry into things you shouldn't be asking about."

He turned to another person who had entered the room. "Get someone over there to keep watch. Make sure nothing actually goes wrong."

It wasn't long before Yunyi arrived at a large, sprawling residential compound. She confidently entered the second courtyard.

Wei Hongyan, who was cooking in the courtyard, saw her enter and waved her spatula in pleasant surprise. "Yunyi, what brings you here?"

Before she could finish speaking, her mother slapped her on the back of the head. "What kind of question is that? Hurry and invite Yunyi inside to sit down."

After Old Master Chu passed away, this was Yunyi's first visit, and Mother Wei felt deeply sympathetic towards the girl.

Seeing Yunyi arrive at this hour, she wondered if the girl had encountered some trouble. She quickly invited her in, "Yunyi, please come inside."
