Chapter 21 - BLACK Heart

Soft-yellow sunlight falls onto Robert. A sense of homeness and comfort enshrouds his soul here.

Grey-gold eyes open wide. The ceiling-sun and its rays bask him in warmth. Looking side to side, he sees marble statues of dancers and warriors with jewels encrusted on their garb and for their eyes. Gold and Silver pillars rose indefinitely to hold the Sun.

A soft chuckle leaves his mouth as he rises to his feet. Before him stood his benefactor. Wyrev's glowing-gold eyes meet Robert's greyed-golden ones. A silent second falls before Robert bows his head and kneels to one knee. *You need not bow, child. Only servants and those inferiors bow. So rise and meet me. Greet me as an equal.*

Robert rises again and nods before finally noticing the chasm. Where Wyrev's heart would be is a hole so dark and shadowed that not even the Sun above can penetrate it. Despair and hatred in equal measures radiate from that hole. Soft lines of Black trail down his chest. "Why is your heart gone, did something happen?" Wyrev smiles, shakes his head, and points at Robert's chest.

*My heart is not gone, you have it. It is good that the sword had not penetrated it. Had that sword pierced our heart then you would be here permanitely.*

Robert nods slightly, "If this heart is yours, then how are you still alive? You said my heart was divine when we last talked. Is this what you mean? Are we connected somehow?"

*One question at a time.* he breathes a sigh, *I am alive because you are not dead. Had you died then you would take my place as God of Time. For your other-*

Robert interrupts him "Stop, wait, hold on.

"What did you just say? I'm the only thing keeping you alive!?" Robert asks in disbelief. "Why didn't you say anything about that!? I-I would've been more careful, I wouldn't put myself in so much danger!" Robert's face twists in concern and surprise.

Wyrev shakes his head and takes a deep breath. *That is why I didn't tell you. Had you known then you wouldn't fight and live and thrive for yourself. As the bearer of my heart you should live your own life for your own sake, not mine or anyone else's. That leads only to despair and uncertainty.*

Robert's mouth opens but no sounds come out. He closes it and turns away. Wyrev is right, he wouldn't have lived for himself. What would he have done? Would he have gotten hurt so many times? Would his Life be as vivid?

He comes up with more and more questions before they are cast away as a solid hand is placed on his shoulder. Looking up he sees Wyrev's face of concern. His eyes tell countless stories while his wrinkles denote many years. *Think not of the past or what you could've changed. It leads only to being enshrouded by chained ragrets. Though its lure is beautiful and full of splendor, it is a lure still. Repeat not my mistake.*

The solid hand on Robert's shoulder gives him warmth and courage. A deep breath and deeper exhale leaves behind some regrets. He looks into Wyrev's eyes again and asks, "Are you the original God of Time?"

A small smile of perfect teeth, *Yes. There have been no other Primal gods of time besides me. Now, it seems time for you to wake.*

"What? I just got here" Robert looks down and sees his body growing transparent.

"Will I be able to come back?" He's almost completely gone.

*Only when you have become strong enough*

His last memory is of Wyrev's face grinning ear to ear.
