Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Annoying Day

After, a somewhat peaceful night interrupted by a somewhat unsettling dream, Alix felt more normal than one would assume as she walked to school the next morning. Maybe it was because she had different concerns like a certain fish's first day of school.

"First day walking to school with ma' best friend. This is nice." Mo said this but it wasn't as though he was walking himself as his fish bowl lay in his dear friend's arms. "Saves time at least. I no longer need to go to the other side of town just to speak to you. Though it is not like you are going to be taking any classes."

"Of course not! Wouldn't want to take those things anyway. Their curriculum is centuries behind my spellcasting ability!" Alix rolled her eyes. "Of course, Magister Mo. Your Abyssal Sea is decades before its time." Mo grinned smugly.

"Long as ya understand." Alix and Mo continued their witty banter all the way to school. Of course, getting some weird looks along the way. I mean, a girl is walking through town while holding a big fish bowl having a conversation with a pink almost spherical fish. It would be weirder if they hadn't garnered any attention.

Alix had her reasons for bringing Mo to school with her. Though having a friend to talk to during the trip to school was also a nice circumstance. It did create a unique scene for others to witness.

One such witness simply stood staring in awe. "Is that girl actually holding a conversation with a fish? Mama never told me that none mountaineers were so weird."

This boy of 16 years in age had just arrived in the town. With his medium length seafoam green hair grown out into what very much is a mullet with some hair sloppily hanging in front. His aloof indigo eyes and snow white skin. His worn black fur coat, black t-shirt, and thick gray pants with cotton lining the inside. Eric Holland screamed that he just came from the mountains.

Of course, that is not important right now. Alix made it to school in the time that it took to describe the boy so...yeah.

Alix entered the Monster Research Studies class, otherwise known as the one of the least attended classes in the school. Now, I bet your wondering, 'Why wouldn't anyone like to learn about monsters?' Well the answer to that is simple.

Monsters are extremely common. One normally learns about them from their parents. In fact, this is such common knowledge that schools tend to completely forgo any sort of monster related class.

That was until Winston Inengway joined the faculty of the Undine School of Mages and insisted that his research on monsters was important. The headmaster agreed to the man's request to teach the class and continue his research with the stipulation that he also be the overseer of the magical combat class.

Which brings us here. Now, one of the reasons that Alix brought Mo to school today was in fact due to this class being the first one of the day. I mean who better to ask about what type of fish your friendly little pink friend is than the freaky teacher that preached about the amazing muses of his monster research.

Alix sat down in her usual seat and placed Mo on her desk. As usual, the turnout for the class was dismal totaling no more than three students other than Alix. "You sure this guy would know what kind of fish I am?" Mo said while analyzing his new surroundings. "If this freak does not know, no one will."

"Freak, huh? Ain't that kind of a rude thing to call ya teacher?" Mo asked causally. "You will understand when you meet him." Almost as if prompted, the door to the room flew open. Mo looked at the figure that enter with interest.

The man had short, curly, black hair and a large stack of books blocking off the rest of his face. "Sorry for being late, I ran into some complication on the way. Those complications being that I can not see beyond these books nor can I walk through people."

Mr. Inengway walked to the front of the class room carefully trying to not drop any of his books. He had on the teacher uniform being a full black suit, white dress shirt and his mage's robe over it. In comparison to students, the man's robe and 5 silver stars embroidered to it.

The stars correlate to the grade of the spellcaster. The more stars one has the higher grade the spellcaster with Inengway being a fifth grade spellcaster. He set down the books on the desk and revealed his indigo eyes and the bags sunken into his tan skin. "Now let us get star-" The teacher froze as his tired eyes locked onto Alix's desk.

"And who might our new attendee be?" the man said deeply interested. "This is Mo. I found him in Lake Opin." The man's eyes widened in shock. "You mean the lake that was believed to be empty?" Alix nodded to the man seemingly intriguing him more.

"I brought him here in hopes that you would be able to identify the type of fish that he is." The man beamed with excitement which was strange for all the students in the class. They had seen Inengway happy before, but never this happy.

"I would be delighted to help you with this little project. If we just grab a few more books from my office we should be able to-"

"Mr. Inengway? Could you please teach the class?" One of the male students in the class chimed in. Inengway looked around the class and saw similar emotions on the faces of the rest of the students. "Oh, right. Ahem, Alix meet me in my office later. I still have a class to teach." The man seemed to have lost all of the energy that he had just gained. Alix shrugged. She didn't care when the research happened. She was in no rush after all.

The man went about his lesson as originally planned until class was over. After class, the teacher ran over to Alix. "Alix, I just realized that it would likely be problematic for you to carry that fish bowl around with you in school. Why don't you let me keep it in my office? I could even start to work while I am not busy." Alix frowned. She met eyes with Mo who just shrugged.

"Do whatever you feel is necessary. Though I would rather you abstain from doing anything to Mo while I'm not there. He is my friend at the end of the day." Inengway's smile dropped into a pout. "Oh, right. Of course. I will keep him in my office until you get there then." Alix nodded and handed the fish over to the man.

'Tell me if he does anything strange to you Mo." she spoke telepathically and the fish nodded. 'I'll have to be on guard around this freak. Who knows what he might try." The man gave one last sad look at the girl before heading towards his office. Alix sighed. 'This may become annoying.' Alix grabbed her stuff and began to walk to her next class.

While walking down the hallway she noticed more eyes on her than usual.

"That's her right? The one that beat Harrison?" one girl with blue hair asked.

"Yeah. I heard that it was pretty one sided too." An orange haired boy responded.

"I heard he even tried to use a third grade spell. How embarrassing." The students laughed amongst themselves. Seems that word spreads fast. Alix didn't really care for rumors. Hell the one that she had heard about Harrison had already been basically confirmed into fact.

'This day can not get anymore annoying.' As she had that thought she noticed a commotion within the hallway. Students forming a crowd and calling their friends over. This had completely blocked off the path to Alix's next class.

The girl sighed and pushed through the crowd. She didn't even care as to why they had gathered but she did need to get through this way. After pushing her way to the front the cause for the gathering presented itself.

A student was covered in bruises and blood leaning against the wall whilst another student stood over him enraged. "Who do you think you are?! You think that you can just run into me and I'll just topple over like some stick in the wind! IS THAT IT?!"

Alix sighed. A noble mistreating a commoner. Normal behavior to be honest, though it rarely escalated to this extent. The girl simply moved to enter her class. That is until she noticed something. Something that confused and enraged the girl.

Alix pushed her way over to the two students. At that moment the aggressor went to hit the commoner again but was stopped by Alix.

"WHO THE HELL-"

"Settle down, bastard son. I have some questions for the dog on the floor."
