Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Insolent Alix Strikes

"You sure this is the right way, Bro?"

"Stop playing around. Or do you want to lead the way?" Miles stared down Kimi. She shook her head. "Then stop complaining and just follow me."

Alix and the group had started the day early. They ate some food that Miles prepared then took off first thing in the morning. Alix was a the back of the group. She wasn't saying much and it was picked up by Kimi who decided to walk beside her.

"You okay back here, Alix?"

"No problem." A short and to the point response. Kimi didn't want to make the girl uncomfortable so she just moved up after confirming Alix's well-being.

'This is gonna be a long journey.' Kimi was originally excited that there was another girl around. She finally had some one that she could actually try to relate to. However, Alix clearly wasn't interested in befriending the girl.

'No! I can't give up! I will have a meaningful conversation with Alix even if it takes the entire journey!' And try she did.

Day after day.

Night after night.

Kimi tried to hold an engaging conversation with this stranger. Sadly, it was to no avail. She tried to talk about the weather but would just get a grunt in response. She would try to talk about celebrities only to discover that Alix didn't know any!

'How is that even possible?! Is this girl not interested in anything besides those little monsters with her?!' That's right. Even though Kimi was failing in connecting to the girl she noticed that Alix would hold full conversations with her fish and peccary.

'Maybe, I should just accept it. Me and this girl just don't mesh.' It was the final day and Kimi was sulking along with the group. Miles and Unio both witnessed the girl get blown off by Alix and could only laugh at their sister.

They hadn't tried talking to Alix at all. Why? It was way too obvious that the girl didn't want to be talked to. Kimi was the only one that didn't seem to pick that up.

"We're almost there! Just around an hour away." Miles announced to the group. Alix sighed in disappointment. She was disappointed that these people seemed to be genuinely nice people. She had been pestered by that Kimi girl the entire time but that was it.

'I wanted to test my gloves on them.' Alix was quite the unique person. She wanted the group to try to cross her so that she had a reason to test out her gloves. She knew that it was pretty unlikely that they would actually attack her but she had hoped that they did.

Sadly for her, they never made a move. Alix sighed again.

'Well at least ya didn't get in any trouble for the past few days thanks to them." Mo comforted the girl. He knew why she was upset but he was honestly glad for the first time in a while. They had gone several days without incident.

'Time for plan B." Alix suddenly resolved.

'What?" Mo watched as Alix cleared her throat and walked over to Miles. 'Wait. Lexi, what are you-"

"You Bhigelens really do have some class." Miles was surprised to be suddenly approached by Alix.

"O-Oh yeah. Well not all of us are corrupt after al-"

"It truly is such a shame." Miles looked at Alix curiously. "What's a shame?"

"Well, over the course of the past few days we've ran into no monsters whatsoever so I never got the chance to see you three in action." Miles nodded a bit confused.

"I mean, yeah. I guess that is a bit of a shame. We did purposefully choose this path due to the lack of monsters, though." Alix pretended to be surprised. "Why would you do something like that? Is this way faster?"

"No, in fact it's a bit longer but it is way safer. I didn't want to put you or Kimi and Unio in any serious danger so we took a detour with less monsters."

"So you knew a faster way yet you took me off of the beaten trail to a place that no monsters or mortals would interrupt your plan." Alix spoke grimly. Miles was thrown by the sudden shift in tone.

"W-wait I didn't-

"So this was always the plan. You were going to pretend lead me to Pesinwok when instead you were going to get rid of me and take all of my belongings." Mo watched in awe as the girl somehow made it seem like there was a problem.

Let me be clear. There was no problem at all. Alix was just twisting Miles' words into a problem. Even Miles was shocked by the girl's conclusions.

"I would never do something like that!" Alix scoffed.

"Sure you wouldn't. Just like that sister of yours wouldn't try to put me in a false sense of security so that I wouldn't suspect a thing. That's why she was pretending to befriend me, right?"

"She just wanted an actual female friend!" Miles raised his voice alerting Kimi and Unio.

"Hmph! Likely story." Miles didn't know what to do. The girl that they had been helping suddenly thought they were tricking her for absolutely no reason! How could he defuse this situation?

"Look, I get that we're from Bhigele but we are nothing like anyone from that nation. People like you could never even begin to understand just how messed up that place is." Alix smirked.

"You just keep talking. Your lies hold no weight in my mind. I know your type!"

"But you don't! You're literally making it all-" Miles was cut off when he had to dodge Alix's fist. "What was that for!?" Miles' stared at Alix with pure disbelief.

Alix cracked her knuckles and met the man's eyes. "I'm just dealing with the criminals from Bhigele. Just like you tried to deal with me." Alix punched her fist together triggering something within the gloves she was wearing.

An aura began to form around Alix's hands as shadows started to form around them. The shadows shifted slowly spreading halfway up the girl's forearm. Miles had no clue what was going on anymore.

"Miles what did you do to her?" Kimi yelled at her brother. This was the perfect time to show Alix that she had her back.

"I didn't do anything! She just started spewing on about some shit that she created in her own mind!" Kimi shook her head scornfully.

"She would never do something like that! You're just too stupid to know why she's mad at you. Now you have to fight her!"

"What!" Unio nodded agreeing with Kimi.

"She's right, bro. Those are the rules from our street days at Bhigele. If a fight starts, regardless of the reason, you have to finish it." Miles was just about ready to pull his hair out from the current situation.

Alix may just get to it before him as she had once again leapt at the man and swung hard. Miles dodged every blow when his back was suddenly against a tree.

He ducked under the girl's final punch and watched as the tree behind him nearly snapped in half from the force of her punch.

"Oh no." Miles now realized that this situation even worse than he thought. "She's crazy strong!"

While Alix and Miles began their fight, Mo had been placed to the side with Trouler standing next to him. He could only watch the situation unfold displeased. He was the most upset that the this didn't even surprise him.

'You really are so insolent sometimes Lexi.'
