Chapter 91 - Chapter 91: Loss of Control

Alix leads Alisa to an area where she feels like they are least likely to be overheard or bothered.

Inengway's classroom.

The only people that even know about the existence of this class are the four students in it, Inengway himself and Vance because he had to lead Alix to the class. The headmaster also likely knows about the class seeing as someone had to green light it.

They enter the empty classroom and take a seat in the front row. "So what did you need to talk about?" Alisa tilted her head but didn't stop smiling at Alix which made her feel a bit uncomfortable. Alix shook off her discomfort and started to explain herself.

"I understand that you have been quite the troublemaker for a long time, yes?" Alisa scoffed.

"Troublemaker? That's kinda weak isn't it? I prefer to think of myself as a savant in both spirits and mischief. Sometimes I'm so wild I think I'm giving Daligo a run for his money!" Alix couldn't help but look strangely at the girl that was currently taking pride in her problem causing habits.

"Okay." Alix said a bit put off. "Well, I guess in my current situation that would be good because I need you to help me be troublesome." Alisa's eyes lit up when Alix asked for help.

"Oh my goodness! Are you really asking me to help you become a fool? Did we finally indoctrinate someone into the group?" Alix pulled back immediately.

"I would not use the word indoctrinate unless you see yourselves as some sort of cult." Alisa ignored Alix's clear concern and instead immediately began to daydream.

"Man, if you join us we'll have an actually monster on our side too! We can really make a mess in this school. Oooh I can't wait to see that old man's face get as red as a cherry while we mess this place up!" Alix was filled with regret about this plan.

"Why are you so excited about this? Did you not tell me that you grew up here in the orphanage? Also are you not curious as to why I wish for you to help me become mischievous?" Alisa waved her hand dismissively.

"None of that matters, I just like seeing the old man have a hard time. It's kind of like when you have a grandpa and you like play pranks on him. You understand that, right?"

"I have never met any of my grandparents and even if I did I doubt that I would wish to upset them like you are doing to the headmaster." Alisa frowned.

"Really? Huh, I guess it's just us then. Though that would explain why all of the other kids growing up never joined in on any of our plans. I think we actually may have been the perfect bad influences for them? None of them really ever did anything bad now that I think about it. Was that because of us?" Alisa started to get lost in her own thoughts again so Alix grabbed her face in one hand and forced her to look into her eyes.

Alisa's squished face was now staring at a stern Alix. "I need to drop out of the the A-Class and the only way for me to do that is for me to fall down to F-class. Now, help me." Alisa stared blankly at Alix.

"That sounds like a bit much? Why would you want to drop out of A-class?" She asked though it was hard for Alix to understand her with her speech being inhibited by her squished face. Alix released Alisa and began to explain her situation.

"I do not know if you have noticed but I am not a pursuant of the martial path."

"Had me fooled." Alix glared at Alisa which made her shut up and continue listening.

'Hey, she's the second one to say that to ya ain't she?" Mo interjected.

'You keep quiet too. This is uncomfortable enough without you two badgering me!" Mo shrugged.

'I was just sayin' it's pretty funny." Alix rolled her eyes and continued.

"Anyway, I am actually a trained spellcaster and that is the path that I wish to stay on." Alisa nodded along quietly even though her mouth was twitching itching to say something.

"I have thought about showing Vance and Business my magic but they, like most people in the school, are under the impression that I am a passionate martial artist due to my mother and my obvious talent in the area. It was starting to seem hopeless for me to transfer until I discovered that I only couldn't leave because I was in A-class. Which is where you come in." Alix gestured to Alisa who was currently squirming in her seat.

"I understand that your talents in rule breaking are something that I need in order to accomplish my goal thus I hope to hire you fools as my enforcements. The idea is that you will continue to cause problems but start gently revealing that I am the mastermind behind these atrocities. What do you say?"

Alisa let out an big breath as she was truly struggling to keep her words to herself. She took a second to settle herself before exploding. Not too dissimilarly to Holiday.

"So basically you want me, Nasak, and Denver to cause all sorts of problems around the campus and say that it's all your fault? That seems like a really unnecessary plan to be honest. I mean, don't get me wrong I'm glad that you immediately thought of my group but I'm sure if you just talked to gramps then he would have heard you out and transferred you to the Spellcaster University." Alix lifted her finger to deny the girl but froze when she realized that she had a point.

'How did I never consider just asking the headmaster to transfer me? Have I been that distracted recently?' Alix shook her head in self targeted disappointment when she noticed that Alisa wasn't done speaking and had even waited for her to refocus.

"Good, you're back! Anyway, I'm not saying that we won't do it but I just needed to get that off of my chest! I'm happy to do anything if it'll make you happy mom! I wonder why that it? No, it's probably because my own mom never loved me so now that I see you as a sort of motherly figure in my life I've transferred all of my emotional desires to you! Isn't the mortal mind strange that way? I mean you're only one year older than me but..." Alisa continued to ramble on and on.

Bouncing between topics faster than Alix cared to keep up with so she just started absent-mindedly nodding while making a mental note to go ask Headmaster Noslen about transferring.

'Seriously how could that thought have never come to mind until, Alice brought it up?"

'Like you said, you've been pretty mentally checked out recently. You've even been making more mistakes while spell crafting. It's honestly had me pretty freaked out." Mo said expressing his recent concerns.

'What do you expect? Two of my friends have gone missing and my strings aren't telling me where they are? Why? I have have absolutely no idea! And while I would love to experiment with them more so that I can try to find a solution I have no idea how much time I have until Nuka becomes like that firebird from yesterday!"

All of a sudden, Alix felt like something was wrong. She was breathing heavily and quickly yet she had made no movements. Her heartrate was also going out of control out of nowhere. She felt nauseous and weak. Her thoughts of Trouler, Nuka, her spellscript, her spell crafting, her school life and other things that have been worrying her began to fly through her mind faster than she could process.

She shot up from the bench and gripped her chest hard trying to find control in some way. Alisa saw this and could instantly tell that something was wrong.

"Mom? Are you okay?"

'Lexi? Hey, Lexi! Breathe slowly Lexi, your breathing too fast, I think. I-I-I don't- uh- Shit!" Mo tried to help but he didn't understand the situation so he turned to Alisa but she clearly didn't understand what was happening either.

Alix awkwardly walked up to the front of the room while still trying to find something to help her regain control. Her back slammed into the wall and she crumpled to the ground hugging both of her legs.

'Nuka and Trouler- I just- umm-what do I- uh- w-what's happening to me?!" Alix hugged her legs tighter and tighter involuntarily. She didn't know why she was hugging herself but she felt a compulsion to do it. She looked around the room in fear.

'Did I get poisoned at some point? Is someone attacking me? Maybe this is another one of the Fools' pranks? Or maybe the Djinns found me again and they're finally gonna kill me?! I don't want to die! Nuka's gonna die if I don't do something but what if I die first!' Alix's thoughts continued to spiral.

She couldn't calm down no matter how much she wanted to. The more she tried to ease her thoughts the worst they got. The harder she hugged herself the more her body felt unstable. She needed to find something stable. Something to hold onto. Something that could pull her back from the deepest reaches of her mind.

"ALIX!!" A voice shouted out gaining Alix's attention just a second before she was completely swallowed by a wave of water. It was dark and cold but to Alix it felt familiar. It felt homey and gentle. It felt like as long as she sat here in this water that all would be okay. There was even a intense pressure pushing down on her that made her feel like she was being protected.

Alix looked through the abyss and saw a fish staring at her with a warm smile.

"Hey, Alix. What're ya doin' freakin out over here by yerself? I told ya that I wouldn't let anything happen to ya. That included if ya get lost in that mind of yers or start freakin' out." Alix felt her breathing begin to slow down.

The storm of thoughts within her mind calmed and her body began to feel normal again. She was not focusing on any of that though. All she could-no all she needed to focus on was Mo.

Mo had her back through thick and thin. Mo pulled her out of the abyss before by showing her that she was not alone in that vast darkened sea. That the Abyssal Sea was not something that she had to fear it was something that could be under her control.

Alix instinctively reached out and embraced Mo tightly. Neither one of them said any words as they sat in the bubble of water that Mo made embracing. Alix smiled from the comfort that she was feeling and Mo reciprocated with a similar smile. The two of them were more than just friends, they were family now.

Alix was currently so lost in Mo's comfort that she didn't even notice his heartstring slightly shift colors for just an instant before reverting to it's normal silver state. The shift went completely unnoticed by either party.

They just continued to hold the other close within this world that only they control.
