"Ow!" Joana trips over what she discovers was a chair. She was trying to get back to the rest of the group but this dumb fog was making it more than a little difficult. "Gah! This is so stupid! Where did this stuff even come from?!" She yelled into the fog even taking a few swings at it but, her voice was drowned out by this annoying constant drone of a sound.
"And what the hell is that noise!?"
"That's a good question!" A voice complimented. Joana quickly drew her blade as she didn't recognize the voice. "Who's there?" She questioned.
"Me? I'm just a friendly, young, tired, and frankly handsome magic pirate captain. And you are the fool that has become my target!" The voice seemed to be coming from within the fog, which should've been obvious, but Joana couldn't pinpoint the direct location.
Suddenly something shot through the fog from her left side. Not expecting the sudden attack she didn't have time to dodge as her leg was pierced through. "GAH!" She screamed as she examined her wound to see what had hit her.
It looked to be a some sort of spear made of ice mana? Or something else because the chill that she got from the spear felt much more ominous than magical. That ominous feeling changed to one of danger when Joana noticed her leg begin to freeze.
"SHIT!" She tried to pull the spear out of her leg but it started freezing her hand the moment she grabbed it making her give up on that plan. Her panic began to rise as her leg was freezing at a steady pace. She swung her sword at the spear in her leg, breaking it in half making the other melt away and her leg stop freezing.
Joana panted as she stared at the state of her leg. She reacted quickly but her leg had still mostly frozen. "That damn fog hiding bastard!" Joana retrained her focus to the fog. She needed to get this guy out of it if she wanted even the slightest chance of victory.
"Wow! You reacted pretty quickly!" Kent's voice said, genuinely impressed. "Now what are you gonna do about these!" He voice roared as from behind the woman a series of spears sparking with electricity shot out coming straight at Joana. With her being down one leg and the attack coming from behind her there wasn't much that the goblin could do to avoid the attack.
So why try to avoid it at all?
Joana's muscles began to flex and harden as she activated her ability. Her skin stretched and tightened around her growing muscles as veins became visible. Every part of her body became tougher, stronger and slightly bigger, even her neck became a bit thicker. When the spears finally found purchase they simply were not strong enough to pierce through her tough skin as they just hit her and fizzled out after making contact.
Joana then turned her entire body around and to face the direction that the spears had come from. "You annoying little bitch! I'm gonna rip you apart when I get my hands on you!" Joana then channeled her Lis into her legs and lifted the frozen one high above her head. She then slammed it to the ground shattering the ice on her leg while sending a shockwave out and pushing back the fog.
As the fog was pushed back Kent was revealed as well, standing only a few feet away from his original position. Kent stood with his eyes wide in shock as Joana locked her sights onto him. "I was hoping to keep that prey in the fog act going for a bit longer!" Joana charged at Kent with great ferocity.
"Get your ass over here!" She shouted so loud that Tyrant got a bit dizzy. He used his own Lis to buff his movement as he dodged to the side, away from the woman. Joana stopped her movements with one of her powerful legs and instantly chased Kent. The young man's eyes went wide as he had to yet again move to dodge.
This time he summoned a few ice spears and threw them at her to try to slow her down. The spear hit their target but, like the lightning spears, couldn't even break through the skin shattering as Joana charged again finally catching up to Kent.
"Oh shit!" Kent exclaimed as he summoned a spear to try to block the attack that was coming for him. Joana swung her broadsword down heavily, breaking Kent's spear in half and cutting into him. Kent winced as the force of the attack knocked him off balance.
The tall, muscular goblin took the opportunity to grab Kent by the shirt and lift him off of the ground. Kent tried to pull himself free but even when he used his Lis it wasn't enough. Joana's face was contorted into a look of rage as she roared and slammed Kent into the ground.
As his body crashed, Kent felt all of the air leave his body as he coughed. Kent was still injured from his fight earlier in the day. Sure, his energy had recovered a bit since then and sure his wounds had settled but they still hurt and he was still tired. That was why he had the great idea to face one of the strongest melee fighters within the Djinns by sticking within the fog!
It was a great plan! That way he could still fight her by using his battle intelligence and he could conserve his energy in case one of his comrades got caught in a desperate situation. That was how it was supposed to go.
How was he supposed to know that she could get buffer and blow the wind away with just a strong stomp of her foot!?
He felt himself get lifted again and was once again slammed against the ground, this time coughing up some blood. Joana saw this and smiled grotesquely.
"Yeah, that's what I like to see! Show me more of your pain!!" She yells as she goes to slam Kent on the ground a third time but just before she can Kent summons a water spear and launches it at her face. It doesn't do any damage but as the water splashes against her face Joana closes her eyes for a moment. "What the hell?! Are really resorting to such cheap tricks now?"
Kent then summoned an ice spear and launched it at the same spot freezing the water on the goblin's face. The sudden freezing of the water cause Joana extreme shock and pain making her drop Kent. "Gagh! You son of a bitch!!" She shouted whiled gripping her face to try to break off the ice.
Kent was in pain but the fight wasn't yet over so he rushed up from the ground and summoned a water and ice spear in each of his hands. He spun the water spear quickly in his right hand as he spun the rest of his body with it then swept the ground sending water across the floor. He then continued his spin but switched to the ice spear in his left hand as he swept the ground and froze the water that he had just put down.
The water began to freeze rapidly eventually ending up at Joana's feet, slightly covering them with ice. Joana was unable to see due to the ice in her eyes but she could feel that her feet had sudden started feel extremely cold and slightly burn.
"What the-woah!" She yelled as she slipped on the ice and came crashing down to the ground. Kent then saw his moment and rushed forward with a lightning spear in hand.
"My mother's no bitch you damn goblin!" Kent shouted as he used all the strength that he had to try to stab Joana with the lightning spear. And that would have happened and probably would have ended the fight.
When suddenly, a forcefield slammed into Kent and Joana, shoving them and all of the fog to the wall of the Pirate's Worst Nightmare. They felt themselves getting smushed against the wood as it creaked and cracked until the pressure of from the forcefield broke through the walls and pushed a severely injured Kent and now deflated Joana out onto the dark planks of the Port of Filth.
Laying on the ground and staring at the night sky unsure as to what just happened.
....
Alix rushed over to Nuka's containment cell and placed her hands on the glass holding her. Alix tried to punch the glass to make it shatter but the glass didn't even have a crack in it from her hit. "This is no ordinary glass." Alix said as she tried again to break through the glass, this time swinging harder.
"Allie! H-How did you-"
"Now is not the time for questions! Is there a way for me to get rid of this glass?" Nuka nodded and gestured her wing limply in the direction of a nearby wall.
"She normally does something over there to get them down so that she can collect my feathers and ether." Alix nodded and ran over to the wall that Nuka gestured at.
On the wall there was a panel that had three buttons and a lever on it. Each button was a different color. One being blue, one green and one...orange? Why the hell wouldn't she just go with the classic RGB coloration of buttons? Oh wait, sorry getting off track.
Alix started to look around the area for any sort of information about what the buttons did but there was nothing. She then looked back at the buttons anxiously. "Alright, do you know how this thing works?"
"Yeah, she hits a button and then pulls the lever."
"Which button?" Alix asked impatiently.
"I don't know I can't see the buttons from here." Nuka said upset that she couldn't be more of help. Alix clicked her teeth as she started to examine the buttons for any sign as to what they do but there was no distinction other than color.
'I'll just have to see what they do by hitting them? No! What if one of them hurts Nuka or spreads out that gas from earlier?' Alix was panicking.
She wanted desperately to save Nuka but pressing these buttons at random could have more negative reactions than positive. She looked back at Nuka.
'Is there really nothing that you can tell me about these buttons?"
"W-Well, at least one of them brings down one of the walls and floods my cell but I don't know which!" Nuka shook in fear as she remembered the pain of when the water would rush into her cage first putting out her flames, then flooding down her throat until she loses consciousness. "I would rather that not happen again, if you can help it?"
Alix groaned in frustration. 'If that's the case then I can't risk hitting these things a random!" She punched the wall hard sending a loud bang resounding around the room. Alix turned away from the buttons and looked around Nuka's cage for anything else that could help her free the bird.
There was nothing. Nothing at all that could help her save Nuka. Nothing except for these buttons and this lever.
"Allie, you have to try them." Nuka informed but Alix had already come to that conclusion herself.
"But I can't! I don't know which one to use." Alix felt like things were getting out of control. Things hadn't felt so confusing for her since she was a kid! Not since that day of her dad's execution. That day when she stood in the crowd next her mom covered from head to toe so that no one knew they were there.
That day when the court mage was ordered to cast a spell that trapped the man that made her love magic in water prison and made the crowd watch as he thrashed and shook and fought for dear life. She could still hear her father's desperate grunts even now though, she hadn't thought about it in a while.
She was so confused that day. 'Why were these people cheering? Why won't anybody help him? Why does my dad deserve this!?' Alix crumpled to the ground as the pressure and pain of the memory tied in with the stress of her current situation triggered yet another panic attack.
Why was this happening to her so often? Why couldn't she control this part of her life? These were the sorts of thoughts that flooded Alix's mind as she lost control of it.
"Allie!" Nuka called but Alix didn't respond. She just sat on the ground hyperventilating, crying and gripping her chest tightly.
'Why did I think I could save her? Why did I think that this was something that I had to do? Nuka hates me. I hate me! I can't save her. I can't save Mo. And I couldn't save my own father!' Alix's mind spiraled.
She was completely trapped in her own pain. For this reason she couldn't here Nuka's panicking cries for attention. For this reason she didn't notice that Francis had finally come back down stairs with Mo in hand.
And for this reason, she didn't try to fight when Francis grabbed her, opened Nuka's cage, and threw her in with her.
