THAILAND GENERAL HOSPITAL....
" Doctor Ken! Doctor Ken?!"
" What's wrong Nurse Alicia, what happened?."
" Patient in room 334 just woke up."
" Seriously... you're not pulling my leg are you?."
" I'm telling you doctor, she's awake."
He dashed out of his office to the patient's room.
" River!"
He called out to her, the woman's gaze turned to the tall man in a white coat...her hand reaching for the oxygen mask on her mouth.
" W-where am I?."
" Don't get up just yet I still need to run some tests, I'm Doctor Julian Ken and you're in my hospital in Thailand."
" Thailand? How did I get to Thailand... it's far from home?."
" You were in an accident Ms River... you've been in a coma ever since."
" First of all my name is Emma Rose Anderson, and what accident? How long have I been in a coma?."
" Apologies I didn't know your name so I had to give you one for a better communication."
" Do I look like some pet that needs a name if it doesn't have one?."
" Forgive me."
" Help me out here Doc, I need to know what happened to me?."
" Sure, but before that do you remember anything at all?."
" Yes, I remember who I am...I know I'm the only child of my parents and that they died in a car accident years ago, my grandparents raised me... At 18 I moved In with my best friend...I graduated and took over my family's business and I'm also a lawyer, I remember everything."
She explained stretching her hand to massage her throbbing head when something shiny caught her eyesight.
" Why is there a big diamond ring on my finger, I don't think I'm married to anyone?."
" Emma? I'm gonna need you to calm down cause there's a lot to uncover here."
" You're scaring me doc."
" We'll start with how you got here okay, I want you to take a deep breath in... and out, can you do that?."
She nodded doing as told. Julian sat on her bedside as he explained the situation.
" I found you unconscious on the east coast of New York City, you had lost a lot of blood from a gun shot on your left shoulder...I drove you to the nearest hospital and the doctors there couldn't do much for you... You had slipped into a coma, I had you transferred here so I can keep a closer look on you... especially in such a delight condition."
" Meaning?."
" You were pregnant Ms Emma."
" W-what... pregnant?."
She reaches for her flat tummy. " W-what happened... what happened to it?." Tears rolled down her face.
" Despite being in a coma I made sure you had a successful delivery, note that even if a woman who's pregnant falls into a coma they can successfully give birth naturally. I made sure to monitor you and your baby closely making sure they weren't any complications. And your baby boy is as healthy as expected."
" A boy...I have a son? Where is he I want to see him?."
She tried to get out of bed but he laid her back down.
" He's well taken care of with my parents, I promise to bring him to you after I'm done examining you. Let's first figure out why you can't remember certain things okay."
" Okay."
She nods laying back down. Julian scanned her brain and did some other tests while he waited for the results of her brain, physically and mentally she was okay, her gun shot wound had healed up nicely through the years. The results came in and they were just as he had suspended.
" What is it Doc, something wrong?."
" It appears you have a partial memory loss, it is a specific memory gap where you don't remember certain events, people or experiences."
" Does that mean I won't remember the past years I lived before my accident?."
" You will remember with time, it's not a permanent memory loss... but if you try to force yourself to remember your brain might not take the pressure and you'll end up losing everything. So take your time and let it happen naturally."
" I see... If you don't mind me asking Doc, what's my son's name? Since you gave me one I'm figuring you gave him a name too right?."
" Alex...I named him Alex."
" Alex huh, I don't know why it feels so familiar yet somehow different again. It's a beautiful name."
" I'll ask the nurse to bring you a proper solid meal, you must be tired from all the liquids we've been feeding you."
He says and left. Emma caresses her wedding ring staring at it intensely.
" I wonder what type of man I married? I never saw myself as someone who would settle for a man so easily. Who are you?."
She spoke with herself in the quiet room, she was so confused and anxious at the same time.
Emma ate the food that was brought to her by the nurse so fast that she ended up asking for a refill, food as never felt so tasty and mouth watering. After her meal she went to take a shower while the nurse brought her new clothes to change into.
" Doctor Ken sent these for you."
" Where... Is he?."
" He stepped out but he'll be with you shortly."
She said and left. Emma changed into the bright summer blue dress and sat on the bed, she didn't have a phone with her so she began to read one of the books lying on the bedside table.
An hour went by and Emma was dozing off slowly but surely, footsteps were approaching her room and the door creaked open. She turns her gaze towards the door and saw Doctor Julian walk in... With an adorable little boy in his arms, the little boy had the thickest bouncy brown chocolate hair, round bright grey eyes and thin pink lips. Emma couldn't believe how adorable he was.
" A-alex...r-right?."
" Mama."
Emma dropped tears with a joyful giggle. " You already can say words," she takes him in her arms kissing his face and hair. " How'd he know I'm his mama?."
" Well we used to visit you so he was familiar with your face, this isn't the first time he's called you mama."
" He's adorable, my baby boy... How old is he?."
" 3... but has a mind of a ten year old don't you champ?."
He ruffles his hair, Emma smiled staring at Julian...he acts like he's the father to her son, he's full of love and warmth towards them. He took care of her and never gave up on her all these years not knowing if she'll ever wake up or not, not only that he took care of her child and raised him like he's own. If it were others they would have long lost hope and decid to remove her from the life support machine, they would have given up her son to an orphanage. She was so lucky to have been found by him that day.
" Are you okay?."
" Yeah...I am."
Emma played with her son for a while longer before putting him to sleep.
" You put him to sleep like it's not your first time being a parent, with me he doesn't go down without putting up a fight."
" Sorry for putting you in too much trouble, it's not your responsibility."
" I'm not complaining...I was just teasing, don't take it seriously." He sincerely said.
" Thank you for everything Doc, I mean it."
" It's my duty as a doctor, and if you really want to thank me then....call me Julian instead of Doc."
" Thank you, Julian."
They stared at one another for a really long time.
" You honestly don't know anything about me?."
" I'm a man who isn't on any social media platforms, I don't usually watch TV just listen to the news through a radio...I do know of a woman by the name of Emma Rose Anderson but not the face."
" A still youthful man such as yourself is isolated from the world, come on stop acting like an old man."
" Well I am 35 so I'm practically an old man."
They both laughed still sharing that connection of their eyes.
" Well I will have to get out of here and look for a place to stay at for a while."
" Why go through all the trouble, you are most welcome to stay at my house for the time being."
" No I don't want to intrude."
" I would be honored to have you and Alex."
" Your wife or girlfriend wouldn't mind?."
" We broke up a long time ago you have nothing to worry about."
Emma signed the discharge papers and went with Julian to stay at his house for a while whilst she figures things out.
