The next morning,
A continuous buzzing phone kept vibrating on the bedside table. With a frustrating deep growl, Alec stretched his hand to it's side still cuddled up to Emma. He reached for his phone putting it to his ear answering in a sleepish tone.
" Yes?."
" Alec."
A crying voice came through from the other end sounding shaken up and petrified. With creased brows, he carefully pulled away so not to wake Emma up-swiftly getting out of bed.
" Mom, why are you crying?."
" It's-its your... father."
" What's wrong with Dad?."
" He's... he's in the hospital, Alec, please come here right away I don't know what to do."
Lisa sobbed over the phone uncontrollably. " I'm on my way."
He hang up rushing to the bathroom. Emma was woken up by the commotion and noise coming from the bathroom, she gets up walking over and saw him rushing to get ready.
" Are you going somewhere, you seem in a rush?."
" Sorry I didn't mean to wake you, go back to bed."
" Tell me what happened?." She holds his hand stopping him from moving up and about.
" Dad is in the hospital I'm heading there now."
" Is he okay?."
" I don't know baby, that's what I'm going to find out."
" Then I'll come with you."
" You need to rest."
" No, I need to be there with you for father. I'm coming with you."
She makes it her final say and gets ready for their departure.
An hour later they arrived at city private hospital where they spotted Lisa near the vending machine getting a bottle of water. They walked up to her and she quickly spotted them also.
" Mom."
" You made it." Lisa hugged the both of them, her voice was a bit hoarse and rough, you could tell she's been crying for a really long period of time.
" Where's Father?."
" Room 5."
Alec went ahead while Emma stayed with Lisa. Grange was reading a newspaper when the door creaked open and his eyes moved away from the paper to the open door, a smile plastering on his face.
" Dad?."
" Son, I'm guessing your mother dragged you out here."
" She's a concerning wife who's worried for her husband, and I'm a concerning son worried for his father."
" I'm okay, there's nothing to worry about... just my blood pressure went up that's all."
He waves his hand like it's nothing. Alec frowned taking a seat on the sofa beside the bed.
" Then something must have happened that caused your high blood pressure, tell me who."
His tone was stain and cold, his eyes showing nothing but displeasure. Grange sighs knowing his son perfectly well, he won't let this go easily, he'll make sure to get what he demands of knowing the people responsible.
" Tell me now Dad."
" Alec, the important thing is that I'm doing fine now, the doctor said so."
" And what if it led to a heart attack? You could have died."
" Alec- "
" I won't ask again Dad."
Taking off his specs and laying them on the bedside table, she spoke.
" We had a gathering with my siblings to discuss a few matters."
" Looks like they won't stop bothering you about the inheritance."
" Yes, but my decision won't change... everything I own belongs to you, your mother and my grandkids."
" I wouldn't forgive any of them if anything ever happens to you, even if they're family."
He gives a cold stare and utter seriousness. Emma walked in and Grange's face brightly lit up like an excited child, not that he wasn't happy to see his son...but he was taking things to seriously and spoke like he was dealing with an important business matter.
" How are you feeling father?." She smiles sweetly and warmingly.
" Much better now after seeing the sun overcome the storm." He teases which makes Alec crease his brows, knowing well he was teasing him. Emma giggles looking the other way doing everything as possible not to meet Alec's gaze.
" Come dear, have a seat."
" I will make a quick call." Alec stood walking out of the room. Emma sat down pealing an apple that was left on the bedside table by the nurse.
" You should eat your fruits father, they're good for you."
" I need real food not these vegetables they're feeding me." He waves his hand stubbornly.
" I promise to prepare you a warm nice meal once you're discharged, but for now have them... deal?."
Grange pretended to think about the offer for a long while, but in his heart he had already agreed to the offer before she even finished.
" Since you insist."
Emma chuckled shaking her head slightly.
" Eli, is a strong ambitious little girl... when I look at her I see young Alec in her, strong willed, business minded. The family business will be in good hands, I don't have to worry about anything. Both my grandkids are good kids, strong like both their parents. Thank you, Emma dear."
" Stop talking like you're going to die father, you will see them grow and become adults you will be proud of."
She squeezed his hand softly. He wipes a tear on the corner of his eyes with a sad but genuine smile. Alec and Lisa came in and they spent another hour at the hospital before it was time for Emma and Alec to leave, saying their good byes.
On their way home. Emma was looking a bit pale and unwell, her hand was pressing on her lower abdomen as though suppressing the pain. Alec threw a quick glance at her with a worried expression.
" Are you okay?."
" Hm." She responded without opening her mouth, barely getting any word out.
" You don't look to well, I'm turning the car around." He was ready to hit the breaks and turn the car around when she suddenly tugged onto his shirt shaking her head weakly.
" I-i want to go home and get some rest, i-i just need rest."
" Are you sure it's just rest? We can go back to the hospital."
" Take me home... please."
Alec hesitated for a bit, she was getting weaker and weaker with each word- it got his skin crawling with fear, and her begging him over and over again wasn't helping. If she isn't willing to go to the hospital then he'll simply have a doctor come to their house. He dialed a number calling a family doctor to meet him at the estate immediately. Then pressed his foot on the acceleration gear driving off at high speed. Thankfully this road leading to his estate didn't have a single car except him, after all he bought the entire land just for that reason. It's private property. Driving a few miles he finally makes a turn on a thin long path gravel road surrounded by thick trees, driving a few meters when the mansion finally came into view. He went through the open gates driving through the parking lot. He gets out of the car and picked Emma up in his arms due to her weak state.
" Welcome home Mr-... Is something wrong with Mrs Quinn?."
The head maid asked worriedly.
" Bring me a bowl of warm water and a towel."
" Yes Sir, right away."
He took the elevator up cause the stairs were too long high up. He placed her on the bed once he reached the room and covered her with some bed covers.
" The doctor is on his way, wife...hung on a bit."
The maid came in with a bowl of slightly warm water and a small towel for her forehead. Alec took it dipping the towel in the water and squeezing it before placing it on her forehead. She was burning up and shivering at the same time, Alec had no idea what to do next. luckily the family doctor just arrived and was led to the room by one of the servants.
" Leave us." He commanded the servants to leave the room leaving only the doctor, Emma and himself. The doctor checked her temperature which was 40°C.
" Has she been showing any symptoms of sickness for the past few weeks?." He asked still examining her.
" No, not anything am aware of... she was doing fine till a while ago."
" What about nausea? Vomiting? Dizziness and stuff like that?."
" Like I said, nothing of sort...is my wife okay?."
" I will perform one more test on her before I can answer question Mr Quinn."
He takes out a small outra sound machine, pulling up her shirt and applying some gel on her stomach. Emma groaned softly in her unconscious state feeling the coldness that swept on her entire body. After looking for a long while, the doctor wipes the gel off her stomach pulling down her shirt and turned to face Alec.
" What's wrong?." He turns to face the doctor with a serious piercing gaze.
" It seems your wife as a rare kind of pregnancy Mr Quinn."
" Pregnancy?. Alec blinks, his heart beating faster than a racing car in his chest. " You're telling me my wife's pregnant?."
" Yes, it's called cryptic pregnancy, quite rare and hard to detect, a woman can go about her days without knowing they're pregnant, they may experience sickness but brush it off."
" Is it dangerous? Will it hurt her or give her complications?." Despite the good news he was worried about her health and we'll being.
" Nothing to worry about, since her stomach won't show it's progression she'll have to come in once a week to monitor her pregnancy and health status, make sure she gets enough rest, food and water since she's already far long as...
