Its like I'm drowning underwater, trying to reach the surface but unable to.

Every day I push upward.

Every day I fail.

But today, my fingers break through something thin, like the membrane between life and sleep.

And then I breathe.

Air rushes into my lungs with a painful burn, and I open my eyes to darkness.

Not total darkness.

Soft, muted shadows.

A dim room.

A warm weight pressed against my side.

I blink slowly, trying to piece together the world through the haze. My body feels heavy, as if every bone has been replaced with stone. Even turning my head feels like lifting boulders.

The form beside me shifts.

The wolf curled at my side,stirs. Her ears twitch.Then she moves, fur melting into skin and limbs rearranging with the smooth ease of a practiced shift.

And then she's there.

My mate.

She's breathtaking in a way that hurts.
