Chapter 4196: Sis, Stop Messing Around
Within the core of the realm, countless divine runes floated. Lin Moyu had refined a total of two thousand, yet this was just a drop in the ocean compared to the whole. He was in no hurry, nibbling away at the core bit by bit, as gentle and unnoticed as a spring rain soaking the earth. Time and again, almost unconsciously, he was able to refine most of the runes within the core.
Once he reached that point, Lin Moyu would gain control over the realm core and become the life of the realm naturally and inevitably. Selecting another thousand divine runes, he left his soul avatars within them. By now, he could sense a subtle yet tangible connection to the realm core. The feeling was excellent; Lin Moyu knew his plan was working and he was truly progressing toward success.
Returning from the realm core, Lin Moyu found An Yuyan still immersed in her comprehension of the Great Dao. He did not disturb her, instead quietly drinking tea and admiring her beauty. Sometimes An Yuyan frowned; other times her face showed traces of joy her expression in constant flux. She seemed relaxed and at ease, a sign that she completely trusted Lin Moyu.
The tenth halo was starting to brighten. About five hundred days later, An Yuyan let out a soft moan, and a vast aura surged from her. The Causality Dao manifested naturally, countless cycles of cause and effect weaving through the Dao: all things in heaven and earth have cause and thus effect, and every effect must have a cause, embodying the ultimate logic of the Dao.
In that moment, An Yuyan cried out in a low voice, "Heavenly Cause!"
Instantly, the Causality Dao was thrown into turmoil. The cycles of cause and effect were broken, the "cause" within them erased by a power so intense that only "effect" remained. This change was extreme, utterly violating the nature of the Causality Dao and completely surpassing it. For an event in the world to have a destined outcome without any cause this was a truly terrifying thing.
It was a complete reversal of causality, defying the rules of heaven and earth.
Lin Moyu watched this and had a faint sense that such power could not be used casually, for its backlash would certainly be severe.
He suddenly thought of the Seeking Cause Ring. The Ring operated on the rules of the Causality Dao, yet its backlash was astonishing. Lin Moyu had once believed it channeled a force from outside the realm, but now he wasn't so sure. Instead, it seemed the ring determined "effect" first and ignored the question of "cause," triggering the backlash a punishment from the rules to substitute for the cause.
In other words, although An Yuyan had comprehended "effect without cause," using such an extreme, law defying power would be almost impossible for her in her current state. If she tried, the backlash would be more than she could handle, unless she advanced again and became a Transcendent maybe then she could just barely wield the power of "effect without cause."
The Causality Dao gradually faded. An Yuyan opened her eyes and, seeing Lin Moyu smiling, said, "Congratulations."
An Yuyan was also happy. "If it weren't for your support, Daoist Lin, I wouldn't have reached this comprehension."
Lin Moyu shook his head, "This was always your fate just as the Causality Dao says, this outcome was inevitable, it was only a matter of time."
An Yuyan's voice softened: "I had given up hope of ever going beyond Eternity. But after meeting you, it's as if everything changed."
"I glimpsed a hidden truth within the Causality Dao: it was your appearance that changed my future, and so…"
She trailed off, and suddenly her face changed. Lin Moyu's expression shifted as well.
A surge of unease filled their hearts, and a wave of dread swept into Lin Moyu's soul. He looked up sharply and saw a sword light descending like a blanket across the sky. The blade was so powerful it shattered the void and evaporated the world's mists. In Lin Moyu's eyes, not even the rules of heaven and earth could block this sword they were cut to pieces.
This was a sword strike unlike anything he'd seen, a force that surpassed the rules, no longer part of this world.
"A Transcendent!"
Lin Moyu's first reaction was that this blade came from a Transcendent. But how could there be such a being here, and why would one attack him?
"Gather Power!"
He instinctively tried to invoke Gather Power, to break past his limits and reach transcendence as well. Only a Transcendent could fight a Transcendent. Yet, at this critical moment, the art of Gather Power failed him, falling silent.
It wasn't just his own techniques even his undead servants were frozen, unable to respond.
The sword light contained such overwhelming power that it overpowered the world, severed time, and obliterated Lin Moyu's personal timeline. His magic didn't fail, nor were his undead numb instead, within the domain of the sword, his soul and body were cast out of time and space.
"So this is the power of a Transcendent?"
Lin Moyu was shaken. He had briefly touched transcendence, but clearly, his understanding was far from enough.
All these thoughts passed in an instant as the sword light fell; there was no escape, no possibility but to take it head on. Still, Lin Moyu was unafraid he could be reborn. He didn't believe that a single sword strike could completely destroy him.
"Look out!"
A cry rang in his ears. Only then did Lin Moyu realize that he wasn't alone in the shattered spacetime: An Yuyan was with him. She could still use her Dao, even as he was suppressed.
What's going on? he wondered, baffled by the inexplicable reversal. But what happened next stunned him even more.
"Effect without Cause!"
An Yuyan activated the Causality Dao and directly used the power she had just comprehended. Lin Moyu felt a strange force wrap around him, and suddenly, he was whisked away from the shattering world.
An Yuyan, using "effect without cause," expelled him but she herself had to endure the backlash as well as face the falling sword. He personally watched An Yuyan, before the blade descended, be torn to pieces by the backlash.
An Yuyan did not die, but she certainly fell into dormancy it was uncertain how many reincarnations it would take for her to return.
As soon as she died, the sword light instantly vanished, as if it had never existed.
Wrath and hatred surged in Lin Moyu's eyes as he glared furiously into the void. Finally, he saw the instigator, and in that instant, all his anger and hatred vanished, replaced by shock.
"Sis…" Lin Moyu was dumbfounded it was Lin Mohan who had unleashed the sword.
After all these years, Lin Mohan was as stunning as ever, standing in the void like an imperial daughter. Her sword aura soared, untouchable by any rule; she existed in that void and yet did not belong to it. She stood there, as if the heavens and realms would step aside for her.
After all these years apart, Lin Mohan had become a Transcendent and a terrifyingly powerful one.
Lin Moyu didn't know what she had experienced, nor what changes had taken place in her. So long as Lin Mohan was safe, that was enough. He only didn't understand why she had struck with her sword. But in a flash, he saw the answer.
Lin Mohan smiled playfully, "Little brother, long time no see. Did I scare you just now?"
Lin Moyu sighed, "Big sis, stop messing around. Save her, please."
