Serena felt the weight was miraculously lifted off her. The moment she could move, she immediately scrambled to gather her gown over her bare front. At this point, she already knew she has been saved, but salvation also came with morbid horror. Tears blurred her vision. She wanted to run and hide. It was dark and perchance she would not be recognized. However, though she tried to stand, her head throbbed from the fall, too weak to walk, she could only crawl enough to reach the beam near her.

Charlton did not intend to follow Serena. However, when he noticed Dante missing in the room, his mind couldn't help but wonder. Did she invite him out? What did she intend to do? Did she give up on Christopher just to latch on her next target? Did she not know that Dante was betrothed?

No, she must have known, and if that were the case, then let her be undone by her own doing.
