Cover Story – Love-sickness Part 4: Sudden Incident
Sandersonia, unfolding her pair of emerald serpent wings, flew back above Kuja City. Looking down, she immediately noticed that Bonney, that woman, was rushing out of the royal palace in a hurry…
Just as Sandersonia thought she was trying to escape again, she realized that Bonney was actually heading straight toward the group of pirate crew members at the city entrance…
…
"Mm-hmm! That makes sense!" Many onlookers began nodding in agreement. The reporters immediately caught on, no one actually knew what started the conflict!
That made things easier...
In the next second, a massive slash rose up, carving a visible rift across the sea's surface, and swept hundreds of meters away in an instant,
Hiss!
A wave of sharp gasps surged through the crowd.
The space the spectators had left clear instinctively widened further. People couldn't help but take several steps back.
'Is this Hawk Eyes guy even human?'
'What the hell is that black greatsword of his?'
'Why does just one casual swing look like it could slice the entire sea in half?!'
'Is this the strength of a great swordsman?'
The vacationers on the island stared wide-eyed, holding their breath in both tension and excitement. Many of them were wealthy and leisurely folks looking to broaden their horizons, and seeing such a jaw-dropping slash from the man called Hawk Eyes left them both thrilled and terrified.
But considering there were Marines stationed on the island, they felt more excitement than fear.
"Hey, hey, hey…" On one side of the open ground, someone from the Big Mom Pirates stared at the slowly healing rift in the sea left by the slash and said in disbelief, "Are you kidding me? He's just a guy from Paradise…
How could he have strength this ridiculous?!"
"Dracule Mihawk." Underneath a wide-brimmed circular hat with cigarette smoke curling up, the "Butcher" raised her indifferent eyes. Her slightly thick lips parted slightly: "Are you sure that you want to block my path here?"
Those familiar with her among the Big Mom Pirates felt a chill go down their spines.
The "Butcher", this title was not given lightly. As the third daughter of Emperor Big Mom, she had perfectly inherited her mother's brutal nature. She was powerful, a master of swordsmanship, yet what she loved most was cutting slowly, dragging her blade through her opponent's body at the slowest possible speed…
Her terrifying habit of watching her enemies writhe in agony as they died was exactly what gave her the cold, fearsome reputation of "Butcher."
Mihawk's pitch-black greatsword, "Yoru", one of the 12 Supreme Grade Blades, rested its tip on the ground.
"I'm just fishing here. You're saying I'm the one blocking your path?" He raised his iconic eyes and stared sharply at the snake-headed woman before him.
"Fishing?" The Butcher gripped the hilt of her famed blade "White Fish" at her waist, cigarette hanging from her lips, and said coldly: "Then where's your fishing gear?"
"As a swordsman, when I'm idle, I just fish a few Sea Kings out of the ocean for fun. Do I really need fishing tools for that?" Mihawk tilted the massive black blade "Yoru" ever so slightly. The inky blade gleamed with not a trace of light.
Hah! Just fishing for a few Sea Kings in his free time?
What a load of crap!
The crowd was stunned by Hawk Eyes' casual remark , and yet, they all instinctively nodded in silent agreement.
Such an outrageous thing to say…
But somehow, coming from this man, it felt entirely believable.
Fight! Fight!
Cries for battle echoed through the crowd. All around, the flashing lights of journalists' cameras clicked,
Ka-cha! Ka-cha!
"What a shame..."
The "Butcher", Charlotte Amande, slowly drew her famed blade White Fish, blowing a smoke ring as she spoke:
"I originally planned to slowly slice you in half during tomorrow's match…"
"Indeed, a pity…" Mihawk's eyes sharpened.
Shuaa,
He raised his massive Black Blade, a sword longer than he was tall.
"You'll face your destined defeat, just one day earlier." A tremendous tension flared between them, flowing from blade to blade, each aura colliding mid-air.
Amande stepped forward with her sword. Mihawk's Black Blade pulsed with energy, Suddenly, his eagle-like eyes darted sideways, toward the sea in the distance.
He narrowed his gaze.
"Hey… do you hear that? Something strange?" A bystander clutched his ears in surprise: "Yeah! I hear it too!"
"It sounds like… pa, pa-pa sounds, coming from over the sea!"
"It's getting closer!"
The reporters frantically turned their cameras toward the ocean and then they saw it.
Ka-cha! Flashbulbs burst.
A figure was rapidly closing in from above the sea… walking in midair?!
Ka-cha!
Another shutter click, now the floating figures were clearly visible: Two people, a tall man carrying a beautiful woman in his arms!
Ka-cha!
One more flash, and this time, the camera caught only the lower halves of the pair due to the angle. But even in the frame, the air beneath the man's feet appeared slightly distorted, compressed by tremendous pressure…
What terrifying speed!
No, wait, who IS this guy? Why can he walk in the air?!
The stunned reporters didn't have time to react before the crowd erupted in gasps and screams.
Before they could think, the tall man, having dashed across the sea on air, suddenly descended from the sky, swinging a black iron rod downward with force!
From the ground, two blades rose to meet him, one was Mihawk's massive Black Blade, The other, a white, needle-like sword over two meters long, held by Amande.
Black Rod!
Black Blade!
White Blade, wait, no. At some point, Amande's two-meter sword had also become covered in a layer of pitch-black color!
Whizz,
The descending figure, Liam, smashed down from the sky with his black rod, directly colliding with the two blades from below.
BOOM!
A devastating impact exploded from the clash of all three weapons.
The ground beneath Hawk Eyes and the Butcher cracked violently from the pressure.
The shockwave was so powerful it instantly sent the surrounding spectators flying, limbs flailing, bodies toppling in every direction.
BANG!
The black rod, the Black Blade, and the darkened white sword clashed head-on.
Beneath her wide-brimmed hat, Amande clenched her cigarette. Mihawk's eyes, those golden, hawk-like irises, sharpened with intensity. Both stared at the young man who had fallen from the sky with that swing.
A three-way clash, vertically stacked, and from their blades, black lightning faintly crackled and surged outward.
Mihawk and the Butcher's weapons shuddered from the force. Liam, grinning broadly, used the recoil to flip back mid-air, landing nimbly several meters away.
He rotated his wrist and slung the iron rod onto his shoulder, chuckling: "Nice and heavy, just the way I like it!"
"..." The Butcher exhaled smoke slowly, her voice cold: "So it's you… The little punk who stole Caesar's Devil Fruit."
Mihawk gripped his Black Blade, his hawk-like eyes fixed on Liam with a small smile.
"I've wanted to meet you for a while. Didn't expect you to be this strong already. Truly unexpected…"
And at that moment, everyone nearby, Even the Big Mom Pirates behind Amande were left completely dumbfounded.
Who IS this young man?!
