Chapter 3 - Chapter 2: Love, Weapons, Control…School

First Person

"Rein~ If you don't wake up…I will make you watch Human Centipede Part 6 with me~" a soft and soothing voice whispered into my ear.

The same voice that woke me up every single morning…

A pleasant, melodic voice that was like music to my ears.

But hearing her utter the words HumanCentipedePart 6 made me shudder. Just the thought of watching such a cursed show was enough to pull me out of my stupor.

For a moment, I just stayed like that.

Strands of her hair brushed against my face, and I could feel her body weight pressing lightly on top of me.

I gently opened my eyes, my vision clearing instantly—only to be greeted by the sight of a very, very, very, very, very, very, very beautiful woman looking down at me with those mesmerising eyes.

Her hair was neatly tied into a loose braid, with two long side bangs framing her face.

Her golden eyes, with countless red rings within them, stared into mine with an affectionate gleam.

My partner. My beloved.

The only person I trusted most in this world.

Makima.

"Why would you say that first thing in the morning? Ugh."

"You know well how I detest that ridiculous horror-romance series…" I groaned, pressing a hand to my forehead.

"It's already 7:45 a.m., Rein-kun. Shall I assume you intend to be late on your second day?" Makima tilted her head in amusement.

Her tone was disturbingly domestic, like a wife waking her husband for work, and the image caught me off guard.

Now that I looked properly, she was already dressed and ready for her first day as a third-year high schooler. The uniform wasn't the usual Kioh Academy girls' outfit; she'd chosen something different because she didn't like the other one's look.

"You know… if you weren't so ridiculously beautiful, I'd kick you off me right now."

A faint smile curved her lips, as if genuinely pleased by my remark. Our eyes locked, gazing into each other's souls, until she began closing the distance… our lips only inches apart.

Her warm breath brushed against my skin, sending a strange sensation coursing through me.

She tilted her head slightly, fingers curling under my chin. "Even more beautiful than Rias Gremory? Don't lie to me… I've seen you stealing glances at her."

To that question, I couldn't help but grin. It was always fun when she did this.

"What? You jealous? I'll admit, she definitely beats you in the knockers department."

Exactly the opposite of what she wanted to hear. I loved messing with her. She thrived on hearing things that pleased her; I wasn't going to give her that satisfaction… not yet.

"I see…" That's all she said.

Makima's expression didn't change. She just stared at me, unblinking. Then, slowly, she extended her right hand toward the weapons I had carefully crafted and displayed on the wall.

My pride. My aesthetics. Hours upon hours of work.

My eyes widened in horror.

Wait. No. She wouldn't—

"Makima, wait—"

Her yellow eyes kept looking into me, and then her lips parted. One word slipped out.

"Bang."

As if an invisible force had wrapped my collection in its grasp, they were crushed until nothing remained.

Just like that… my weapons were gone. Obliterated. Shattered.

The time, the effort, everything, reduced to nothing.

"Why don't you just crush my heart while you're at it?" I muttered, my voice stripped of its usual playfulness. "You've already destroyed my hard work… what's left for me to feel?"

Makima tilted her head slightly, her golden eyes fixed on me, calm and unyielding.

"You should be more careful with your words, Rein-kun," she said softly, yet every word carried control. "I do not tolerate comparisons. Whatever you meant by… knockers department, know this: I surpass that spoiled princess of the Gremory household in every way."

This…

Had I finally hit her nerve? But why Rias specifically? What was it about that girl that made her react like this?

I couldn't waste time overthinking. I had to clear this up before it spiraled out of control. The tension was thick enough already… one more push, and she might just use Bang to bring the whole place down.

Without wasting any more time, I flipped us over, landing above her, my hands gently but firmly holding hers against the bed. Her golden eyes widened slightly… in curiosity.

"You want me to be honest, right?" I murmured, my voice low. "Then hear this."

I leaned closer, letting my lips hover just above hers. "I like the way you smile… it feels like time stops for a second whenever you do."

I brushed a strand of hair from her face. "I like the way you look at me… like you can see every part of me."

Her breath hitched faintly as I continued, heart hammering in my chest. "I like the way you kiss me. How it makes me forget everything else, how it makes me feel… alive."

And finally, the words I'd been holding back, the ones that might have sounded foolish if said too casually:

"I love you, Makima. I really, really, really do."

The room seemed to fall silent around us. Her eyes softened, ever so slightly, though the masterful control she always carried remained.

"So…" I began, my tone teasing but serious, "be more mindful of destroying my things. Next time, I won't tolerate it."

A faint, unreadable smile curved her lips. I knew, in that moment, that she was pleased with my honesty.

Gently freeing her hands from my grasp, she cupped my cheeks with both palms. Her gentle touch made me feel things I really wanted to give in to.

I couldn't help but keep looking into her eyes.

"You are really adorable when you're honest, like a good boy, Rein-kun~" she murmured softly, her eyes glinting with amusement and something like affection.

"I can't help but like it when you speak your heart. It makes you so… so utterly mine."

I smirked, tilting my head just slightly, letting my confidence show. "Good boy? Then should I bark too?"

Makima let out a faint, almost amused sigh, her golden eyes unblinking. "Your arrogance never ceases to amaze me. But perhaps you should be more concerned about your own safety."

"Nah," I said, leaning closer, letting my grin linger. "Life's boring without teasing you."

"Anyway, would you like to go out with me after school hours?"I said it with our foreheads touching, eyes locked on each other.

"Are you asking me out on a date?" Makima asked with a smile, while her voice almost a hush.

"Yes, we just moved into this city few days ago. We haven't explored much. Besides…we need to put leash on our new dog~" I replied while playing with her side bangs that framed her face.

Makima's eyes flickered for a moment, almost surprised, but realization quickly settled in. Then her lips curved into a faint, knowing smile.

"The boy with the dragon aura… I must ask, though," she said, tilting her head slightly, "what exactly are you planning to do with him?"

I let a slow, confident smirk play across my lips.

"If he really turns out to be the host of a Heavenly Dragon… then he could end up being one of our greatest tools to get us thatthing."

Makima's eyes glimmered with interest and approval. "I see… I expected nothing less from you, Rein-kun."

Third Person

Kuoh Academy, originally a private all-girls school, had only recently become co-ed. Even so, the boy-to-girl ratio was heavily skewed in favor of the girls.

For any male student, this was practically heaven. Getting a girlfriend was almost guaranteed… if they knew how to play their cards right.

All except the unfortunate perverted trio. The poor souls were despised by nearly every female student in their grade, simply because they were unapologetically perverted and never bothered to hide it behind a fake gentlemanly persona.

Currently, Issei, Motohama, and Matsuda were standing by the stairs, their usual morning meet-up spot.

Unlike the other two, Issei was more preoccupied, thinking back to the events of last night.

How his first-ever girlfriend had turned out to be a fallen angel freak who wanted to kill him…

…and how Rein had saved him from certain death.

He was deeply grateful to be saved by his teacher. Someone with looks and personality to back it up, someone he wanted to become like so he could eventually fulfill his dream of being the harem king.

But one thing really bothered him…

"Stop screwing with me, guys. You seriously don't remember meeting Yumma?" Issei asked, concern creeping into his voice.

How could his friends forget Yumma—his first girlfriend?! He remembered clearly introducing her to them, and how they had cursed him while simultaneously geeking out over the fact that he was "already a man" before them.

"Nah, dude. The name's not ringing any bells," Matsuda replied, his attention mostly glued to his phone.

"I'll say it again, you never introduced us to some chick. Besides, there's no way you have a girlfriend," Motohama said, adjusting his glasses frame with a smirk.

Issei wasn't buying it. Did they have dementia or something? He briefly considered the possibility.

"But that doesn't make any sense! Her phone number is right h—" Issei paused, checking his phone.

"No way… Yumma's contact isn't in my phone."

"What in the hell…?"

I should make a personal note to ask Rein-sensei what the hell is going on, he decided.

But then…

His thoughts were abruptly interrupted as a familiar eye-patched blonde came into view, walking up the stairs toward them.

His eyes widened.

"Rein-sensei?"

And this time, Rein wasn't alone. Walking beside him was a red-haired girl with golden eyes. What caught Issei off guard even more was the different school uniform she was wearing, something entirely unlike the usual Kuoh Academy attire.

They were none other than Rein and Makima. Ignoring the swarm of female students practically losing their minds over the duo, what immediately caught Issei's attention was that Rein and Makima were holding hands—

Something only lovers do.

Issei didn't overthink it. It wasn't really his business, after all. And besides… it'd be pretty pathetic if he started having thoughts like that about his savior's lover.

Still, he decided he should at least say something, maybe a polite greeting to someone he had come to admire.

"Good morning, Rein-sensei!" Issei called out, bowing with as much respect he could show.

Matsuda and Motohama's jaws practically hit the floor. Just yesterday, Issei had been swearing and cursing about Rein's face and his insane popularity. Now, all of a sudden, he was acting like a model student.

Issei's sudden gesture did not surprise Rein. Instead, his red eye flicked in amusement.

While Makima just stared at Issei with indifference, wondering why the universe had the habit of favouring individuals who were so…trivial and unworthy for great power within them.

She could practically see Denji in Issei…

the boy who admired her in her previous life…

the one who carried a piece of her former idol within him…

…and also the same one who had murderedher.

"You must be Issei from Class 2-B. I've heard about you, and I must say I am intrigued. You have earned quite the reputation," Makima said, amusement in her tone.

Issei was taken aback. Just being remembered by someone as beautiful as Makima… it sent butterflies straight into his stomach.

But that fleeting dream was cut short. Makima belonged to Rein, and he could never even hope to imagine himself with her.

"Issei, what's wrong? You look like you've been through hell," Rein asked politely.

He placed a hand on Issei's shoulder, his expression calm, almost teacher-like.

"Maybe the beatings you and your friends keep getting from the Kendo girls are becoming too much. Don't you think it's about time you quit doing something so shameless?"

His tone was gentle, but the sharp edge underneath it was undeniable.

"You know… if you keep going down this road, one day you will end up getting arrested." Rein tilted his head slightly, amusement flickering in his eye.

The trio stiffened at the word arrested. For the first time, they seriously considered that maybe—just maybe—their desperate dream of having girlfriends was making them act recklessly.

Issei lowered his gaze, ashamed. "I… I apologize. I'll keep that in mind."

Rein's hand rose, fingers ruffling through Issei's hair with an almost unnatural softness. "As long as you understand."

Then, his smile lasted just a little too long, his voice dropping low enough for only Issei to hear.

"Oh, and Issei… I'd like to have a word with your mother. So wait for me after school hours."

"And one more thing… never let a single lecherous thought about Makima cross your mind. If you do… you won't live to regret it."

With that, Rein and Makima continued on their way, leaving Issei standing frozen, completely lost for words.

In Class 3-B

The classroom buzzed with chatter and laughter, as energetic as ever. It was the second day of the new academic year, and students were busy catching up with friends after the spring break.

Sona and Rias were no exception. Unlike Sona, Rias had spent her spring exploring the human world, checking off the list of places she had long wanted to visit in Japan.

"Sona, are you certain our new teacher is just a normal human?" Rias asked, her curiosity evident. "He seems… too beautiful to be ordinary."

Sona sighed. She had personally interviewed the new teacher and found nothing suspicious. She had even used a mind spell on him, and everything he had said confirmed he was merely human.

He radiated no supernatural presence whatsoever. In every way, he exuded the aura of a completely ordinary person.

"You don't need to worry, Rias," Sona replied calmly. "I'm certain he's just a normal human. He's simply… lucky to have genetics that gave him such good looks."

Sona wasn't the type to take things lightly. She had done a thorough background check on Rein and studied his body language carefully.

No matter how skilled someone was at hiding themselves, their subconscious always betrayed them—the slight tension in their shoulders, the imperceptible hesitation in their movements. Only a trained supernatural could maintain such perfect control.

And yet, Rein's movements were relaxed, utterly casual. There were openings everywhere, small tells that anyone trained enough could notice. After careful observation, Sona concluded that he posed no threat.

Just as she finished her assessment, the classroom door opened.

Rein stepped inside, calm and composed as ever. But he wasn't alone. Behind him, a striking red-haired girl with golden eyes followed—her uniform slightly different from the others, marking her as a newcomer.

Sona and Rias gasped in shock at the sight of the new student.

The new girl was… a devil.

An unregistered supernatural had walked into Kuoh, and into their school without them even realizing it.

Instinctively, both Sona and Rias went on high alert, but they couldn't act now, not with all the human students around. Exposing themselves would be a nightmare, and a mind wipe would be too time-consuming.

Meanwhile, the female students in the classroom had hearts in their eyes just from the sight of Rein, but that moment of admiration was cut short as their eyes landed on Makima.

A new transfer student.

"Alright, class, quiet down," Rein said, his voice calm and immediately drawing everyone's attention.

Makima stepped to the front of the classroom, hands neatly clasped, posing with a professional composure that made the room go even quieter.

"Starting today, she will be joining you all. Be kind to her, got it?" Rein added, his red eye sweeping the room.

A random male student whispered under his breath, loud enough for the supernaturals to hear:

"Damn… she's hot, but what's up with those eyes? It's giving me heebie-jeebies."

Rein ignored him completely and turned to Makima.

"Why don't you introduce yourself? Maybe also tell us a fun fact about you?" he suggested, his tone neutral but firm.

Makima's lips curved into a faint, almost imperceptible smile. She tilted her head slightly, while her golden eyes scanned the room.

"I am Makima. It's a pleasure to meet you all," she said softly, her golden eyes scanning the room.

She paused for a moment, as if deciding how much to reveal, then added:

"A fun fact about me? …I like humans. The same way humans like dogs. Loyal, easy to handle, clever and stupid all at once. Just watching them is fun."

Silence stretched across the classroom. Not a single word was spoken after Makima's disturbing reveal. One thing was certain…Kuoh Academy would never be the same again.
