Chapter 7 - Seven

It's finally the day for airing the pilot episode. Despite all that happened, Chaeri was still very adamant about airing it.

"We urge all members of the cast to come and watch the pilot episode in the common room."

Lee's announcement is enough to send everyone into a frenzy.

"They got an episode ready?" Hyeonsoo confirms as she signs to Soora who has just delivered the news to her.

Soora nods her head and replies. Hyeonsoo smiles and clasps her hands together in happiness.

Soon they are all gathered in the meeting room.

"It's starting!" Joanne says enthusiastically.

They quiet down as the episode begins. The highlight of the show is the dance lesson and of course the fight between the Yu sisters.

Minju is upset.

"Miss Seojin, you said you cut your hair unintentionally," Ara says. "That was a lie?"

Minah shifts uncomfortably in her seat. She can't believe this went online. So many people will be watching.

The credits start to roll in and then a glimpse of the next episode showing the outing on the cruise ship and Dongkuk and Joanne's date.

Chaeri steps out of the local shop. Her face is red from drinking. She had been upset that the ratings for the pilot episode was only 7% which was far less than the 20+% of the two seasons of kingdom of love. As if that wasn't enough, Yu Minju had scolded her for trying to draw a rift between his sisters.

She ought not to have been bothered by it but it had disturbed her so much that she ended up leaving the villa to get wasted.

Now, as she stands alone watching the rain pelt down, she begins to regret it. An umbrella appears over her head and she looks up to see who has shielded her with it.

"You," she says faintly and then proceeds to fall against his shoulder.

"You haven't changed one bit, Kang Chaeri," he chuckles. He supports her and puts her in his car. Then he drives to her home.

Minju returns to the apartment to see his mother and sisters in the living room.

"You should have owned up to your mistake," Hyeonsoo tells her eldest daughter but she's only able to understand very few words. Sighing, she writes it down.

'Don't you know your younger sister looks up to you so much? You need to try and understand her. If you explain to her, she would reason with you.'

Minah glares at Seojin after reading through her mother's writing. Then she gets up and goes inside. She re-emerges shortly with her hair shooting in different directions.

"I cut my hair!" She shouts. "Happy now?"

Seojin is amused and shocked at the same time. Minju has a smile on his face and Hyeonsoo proudly embraces Minah who is still very angry.

"You did well," Hyeonsoo tells her. Minah is able to understand. She sniffs and hugs her mum tightly.

Minju recalls that he has spoken harshly to Chaeri. Then he remembers telling her that he feels she's always trying to tell him something. He chides himself for not being patient with her.

He gets a call from Kim Dogil, his junior colleague.

"Detective Yu, we found a spray can in a trash bin, two streets away from the apartment," Dogil reports. "We'll be going to the apartment to look for more clues."

"I'll meet you there," Minju says. He attempts to send a message to Chaeri to inform her that he'll be leaving the villa. He decides against it and calls assistant producer Lee instead.

*

Minju is surprised to see the apartment is spick and span. This was unofficially a crime scene. He is sure Chaeri won't have come back here.

Maybe the criminal came back?

He hears someone whistling and turns around to see an unfamiliar looking guy. He keeps his hand on the gun in his back pocket but doesn't bring it out.

"Who are you?" He asks.

"I didn't know Chaeri started seeing someone again," the man says. "I'm Bang Chunhoo, Chaeri's ex."

"I don't think Chaeri would appreciate you being here," Minju says picking his words strategically.

"Well, she opened the door for me so what can I say?"

Minju's heart quickens unintentionally. What was she doing here?

"I guess I've overstayed my welcome," Chunhoo says. He grabs his car key on the centre table and takes his leave.

Minju rushes inside to see if Chaeri is actually in and if she's in a safe condition.

She is sound asleep. Her work clothes are still on her. Her shoes have been removed.

Minju's phone beeps and he sees that Dogil has texted him asking where he is.

He simply replies to carry on that he wasn't given permission to leave the villa.

He clenches his fist as he taps on the send button. He takes a quick glance at Chaeri. Protecting her is part of his job, right?

He goes to the living room and studies the producer's space. He didn't have the time to look through it when it was untidy.

Speaking of which, he really wants to know why her ex was just in her home. He doesn't know much about Chaeri. He probably knows nothing except that she's a producer.

He looks around again. Who would want to harm a producer and why?
