Their opening move was to take the head of the Great Demon amidst a massive army, an intense tactic that scarcely anyone could survive, and without the aid of the Great Demon, previous battles have proven that, against the humans' heavy defensive line, sheer numbers are the least effective way to attack.

Since they're not prepared to fight, Malin has no intention of leading his forces forward either. The reason was mentioned before: stretching the defense line here. A single move could have repercussions throughout, and with the Tide of the Dead approaching in a few months, retreat would be even longer then... Isn't it a waste of everyone's lives?
