Chapter 17 - Setting Out

The entrance to Henry's cave had been enchanted to perfection—a marvel of magic and technology working seamlessly together. A barrier of spells shimmered faintly, designed to block intruders and deter wandering creatures. The spells were so intricately layered that they were almost invisible to the naked eye, detectable only by those sensitive to mana flows. Henry had tested them countless times, tweaking every detail to make sure they were foolproof.

From the outside, it looked like nothing more than a natural rock formation. But stepping inside revealed something extraordinary—a sprawling three-story modern house nestled within the heart of the cave. Henry had turned the once gloomy refuge into a masterpiece that reflected his personality and ambitions. It wasn't just a home; it was a world of its own.

The walls of the cave had been enchanted to simulate an outdoor sky, complete with drifting clouds, sunlight, and even a star-filled night when darkness fell. The enchantment was so lifelike that Henry often forgot he was underground. The backyard—yes, there was an actual backyard—stretched behind the house, containing a lush garden filled with bioluminescent plants, a couple of sports courts, and an outdoor infinity pool that shimmered in the artificial sunlight. The entire setup exuded luxury and comfort, yet it also had a practical edge.

The house itself was a marvel of alchemical prowess and futuristic design. Henry had spent years buffing his mind, channeling mana into his brain to enhance its activities. This had allowed him to grow exponentially smarter, able to recall and process his life on Earth with uncanny clarity. Scraping together every piece of knowledge he had learned, heard, or glimpsed, Henry recreated the technology of Earth and built upon it, creating things that were far ahead of their time.

The house was equipped with amenities that rivaled even the best sci-fi films—smart interfaces powered by mana, self-cleaning surfaces, and furniture that could adapt to the user's preferences. The kitchen was a chef's dream, with appliances that responded to voice commands and prepared meals with automated precision. The living room boasted holographic displays, sound systems, and a virtual reality hub that Henry used for entertainment and simulations.

Downstairs, the garage was a sight to behold. The first basement level housed his car and trailer, parked neatly alongside a collection of tools and spare parts. But it was the second basement floor that truly reflected Henry's creativity. Here, he had created a fleet of vehicles inspired by the sci-fi worlds he adored—hover cars, bikes that could glide over water, and even a small spacecraft-like prototype. Most of them had never been used, but Henry had built them simply because he could. It was the culmination of years of learning, experimenting, and pushing the boundaries of both magic and science.

Today, Henry wasn't lounging around in his usual casual attire. He had swapped his worn-out clothes for something he had crafted himself—a sleek, futuristic outfit that combined function with style. The material was an enchanted fabric he had created during his alchemical experiments, designed to be insanely durable and adaptable to any environment. Its dark, metallic sheen reflected hints of blue and silver, and its design gave off an air of sophistication while maintaining a casual edge. Henry grinned as he adjusted the cuffs of his jacket. "Not bad, huh?" he said to himself, admiring his handiwork in a nearby mirror.

The outfit was more than just clothing; it was a testament to his ingenuity. Its enchantments allowed it to resist extreme temperatures, repel physical damage, and even adapt its color to blend into surroundings. Henry had tested its limits during his experiments, and every trial confirmed its effectiveness. This wasn't just fashion—it was armor.

Years of solitude had pushed Henry to a decision: it was time to venture into the outside world. He had spent enough time learning, building, and preparing. Now, he wanted to explore, experience, and enjoy everything this world had to offer. With his mana and aura suppressed to feel like a human—thanks to a device he had crafted after testing it with local animals—he could blend in seamlessly, avoiding unnecessary attention.

Henry stood in the living room, packing supplies into his pocket space—a magical storage dimension he had created to hold everything he might need. The device he used was sleek and efficient, allowing him to summon items with a simple thought. It was one of his favorite inventions, and he had spent weeks refining its design. "Food, check. Tools, check. Emergency mana potions… eh, why not?" he said, tossing items into the pocket space as he listed them aloud.

His demeanor was playful, almost carefree, but there was a sharpness to his actions—quick, precise, and calculated. Henry might have seemed like an energetic young man in his twenties, but beneath the surface, his mind was always ticking, analyzing every detail. He knew how dangerous the world could be, and he wasn't about to underestimate it. Yet, his excitement bubbled over, making it hard to contain his grin. "Time to see what this world's got," he said, slinging a small satchel over his shoulder for aesthetic purposes. He didn't need it, but hey, it looked cool.

Henry descended to the second basement level, the hum of mana-powered machines filling the air. This floor was his playground—a space filled with inventions, prototypes, and creations that blurred the line between magic and science. Hover cars, mana bikes, and even a mech-like suit sat idle, waiting for their chance to shine. But Henry wasn't here for any of those today.

He stopped in front of a device that had been collecting dust—a hoverboard he had crafted months ago but never used. Its design was sleek and minimalistic, with glowing edges that pulsed faintly with mana. Henry crouched down, wiping the surface with his sleeve, a smile spreading across his face. "You've been sitting here way too long," he said, running his hand along the edge of the board. "Guess it's time to give you a spin."

The hoverboard had been one of his smaller projects, something he had made out of curiosity rather than necessity. But now, it felt like the perfect way to kick off his journey. He activated the board with a touch, its mana core humming to life as it floated effortlessly above the ground.

Henry stepped onto the hoverboard, balancing himself with ease as it adjusted to his movements. The sensation was exhilarating, like riding a wave of energy. He guided the board through the garage, past his parked vehicles, and toward the cave's entrance. The barrier spells shimmered faintly as he approached, sensing his presence but allowing him through without resistance.

The moment he stepped outside, the sunlight hit his face, warm and inviting. The forest stretched before him, its vibrant colors and dense foliage alive with the hum of mana. Henry suppressed his aura completely, blending in with the surroundings as the device ensured he appeared no different from an ordinary human. "Alright," he said, his grin widening. "Let's see what's out there."

With a slight lean, he directed the hoverboard forward, gliding smoothly over the terrain. The wind rushed past him, carrying the scent of the forest and the promise of adventure. Henry didn't look back; his eyes were fixed ahead, his mind brimming with excitement for the journey to come.
