Chapter 525 - Chapter 526: The Truth (Conclusion)

"So that's the truth… I don't even know what to say." Daniel sighed deeply as he sifted through the documents in his hands. With Shono's death, the ADDC9 scandal was finally beginning to settle. He'd been puzzled, wondering how such a deadly drug had escaped detection, especially since Shono was just an ordinary researcher without the resources or backing of someone like Stark or Umbrella. Normally, such a groundbreaking drug would have faced rigorous testing before release.

But upon reviewing the files Ryouko had provided, everything became clear. It all stemmed from an unfortunate coincidence that allowed the situation to spiral out of control. This coincidence, combined with the involvement of powerful figures like Ruriko Shido and the Tsukuyomi Association, had magnified the problem into a full-blown crisis.

The coincidence that set everything in motion involved Shono's illegal testing on patients from the research center's affiliated hospital. One patient had died unexpectedly, and in his haste, Shono had removed only the eyes before disposing of the body. The case drew the attention of both the police and prosecutors.

The officer initially assigned to investigate—a diligent detective with a high clearance rate—traced the death back to Shono. Had he arrested Shono right then, none of this would have happened. But once he learned about Shono's supposed breakthrough, he not only let him go but joined his cause. From then on, the detective became responsible for covering up Shono's experiments and hiding the bodies. Eventually, a high-ranking prosecutor joined in as well, keeping everything hidden under layers of bureaucratic red tape.

As a police officer, the detective knew precisely how to make bodies disappear, especially since the people Shono used for testing were marginalized individuals and those from the underworld. Their disappearances were dismissed, covered up from within the police department. But things escalated when Shono began testing on a nurse at the hospital.

The nurse's boyfriend, wrongfully accused of her murder, was represented by Yagami, a former lawyer turned detective. Yagami's involvement with the detective stemmed from his work defending the boyfriend, who had been falsely accused as part of the cover-up.

The police officer and high-ranking prosecutor both had personal reasons for supporting Shono, tied to a shared trauma: each had cared for a loved one suffering from Alzheimer's. This disease had caused tragedies in their lives—draining the families emotionally and financially. Shono's determination to develop ADDC9 had the same origin, born of a similar tragedy in his own family.

Alzheimer's disease is a devastating illness. Caring for a loved one with it requires 24-hour attention, something only the wealthy can afford. For ordinary people, it is an exhausting burden. The detective's mother had died from exhaustion while caring for her own mother, while the prosecutor's older brother and sister-in-law had spent years tending to their mother, only to take their own lives after she passed, completely drained.

The bond between these three, forged through their shared suffering, ultimately led to the ADDC9 disaster.

In the end, Shono was no saint, unlike some scientists who proclaim they work for humanity's benefit or the planet's welfare, all while pursuing self-interested goals. Shono's intent had been personal, not altruistic. He could have taken a different approach, but instead, he became fixated on ADDC9, convinced he could resolve its flaws.

"Perhaps I should direct more attention to Alzheimer's research in the future," Daniel mused as he closed the file. The tragic stories reminded him of how Spenser's mother had passed away, a loss that had driven a wedge between Spenser and his fiancée, JJ. Although things were better now with Daniel's help, those painful memories lingered.

"So they issued a public apology… It seems the Yakushiji family seized the opportunity to expand their business." With Ruriko's defeat, many officials tied to medical institutions were forced to step down, including some of the highest-ranking ones. The Yakushiji family's security firm took over several medical and nuclear facility contracts previously held by Ruriko's company.

With ADDC9 out of his mind, Daniel turned his focus to the other files Ryouko had given him. These contained data on the green creatures they had encountered, as well as the strange fiber implants in the controlled soldiers' ears.

"A fusion of ancient primate and human DNA… These people have no boundaries, do they?" Through the files, Daniel learned that these green creatures were the result of an international collaboration. A coalition of eight nations had formed an investigative team to examine an ancient tomb in Romania, where they discovered ancient skeletal remains. The bones were divided among the nations, each conducting its own research. Following Ruriko's defeat, her affiliated research facilities had been taken over by the Yakushiji family, revealing a lab dedicated to these ancient primate experiments.

What the other nations had uncovered remained unknown, but Japan had produced monsters. Initially uncontrollable, Ruriko had managed to gain control over them using fibers derived from a mutated type of redwood combined with specialized soundwaves.

Sound is a powerful weapon. Even in the world of ninjas, sound-based techniques were known for their illusions. In the modern world, sound could be weaponized just as easily, as demonstrated by Ross's use of sonic cannons against the Hulk.

Thankfully, these creatures couldn't live long due to cellular issues. Like the giant white serpent enhanced by the Elixir of Eternal Youth, they would eventually perish on their own.

"Science really has no limits… I wonder when that Jurassic Park will have its first incident," Daniel thought as he opened his phone and checked the latest news. Jurassic Park, after years of preparation, was finally set to open. Located on a remote island, it featured various dinosaurs, even Allosaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex. The park's management claimed they had foolproof security, but Daniel had his doubts.

Of course, he wouldn't go out of his way to issue warnings. There were plenty of people who shared his concerns. But until something actually happened, the allure of profit would keep them quiet.

Dinosaurs from a bygone era would surely attract crowds. Tickets for the first wave of visitors were already being sold on the black market for high prices.

"Sure, they say they extracted dinosaur DNA from ancient mosquitoes trapped in amber," Daniel mused, skeptical. Even if such mosquitoes existed, he doubted their blood would yield all the necessary genetic material for every species of dinosaur.

He strongly suspected the genetic samples came from a time-travel incident that had caused dinosaurs to briefly reappear.

"Another company headed for bankruptcy," he thought. Jurassic Park was profitable but also a potential liability. If something went wrong, the company could face crippling lawsuits. Sure, their security measures might be solid, but no amount of planning could prevent internal sabotage. There were plenty of buyers on the black market willing to pay a fortune for a real dinosaur.

While a military base would be near impossible to infiltrate, a public park was a different matter altogether. This was the kind of heist that could set someone up for life.

"It's time to make a move," Daniel decided. That night, he left a clone behind and used his secret technique to teleport back to New York. There, he tracked down a researcher from a military base he had been monitoring through the Red Queen's surveillance network. With a quick use of his telepathic powers, he accessed the man's memories, transforming into his likeness with a flawless disguise.

The energy detectors prevented direct teleportation into the base, but for Daniel, that was a minor inconvenience. With this approach, he easily infiltrated the facility.

"Fingerprint and retinal scan?" he murmured, smirking as he bypassed them with ease.

"Dr. Charlie," he read on the ID card, strolling into the base as if he belonged there.

A familiar figure caught his eye: a slender brunette with striking features, Jessica Sherawat, a member of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA). Daniel had met her during his encounters with Chris and Jill.

According to Dr. Charlie's memories, she was affiliated with Tricell, a pharmaceutical conglomerate that rivaled Umbrella at its peak. Though it had publicly fallen after Chris and Jill took down several research facilities, it still operated in secret.

It seemed that Sherawat, like Ada Wong, was navigating the shadows between law enforcement and corporate interests. Daniel made a mental note to inform Chris and Jill about this when he returned.

Using his surgical abilities, Daniel slipped into the area where the Tyrants were held, deftly removing the parasites controlling them.

"Dr. Charlie, what are you doing here?" a group of soldiers approached, their expressions wary.

"Just running some checks," Daniel replied smoothly. But as they remained on alert, he sighed, knowing what he had to do. In a blur, he disarmed them, using one of their own knives to end the encounter.

"Showtime," he whispered, tossing several smoke bombs. As clouds filled the corridors, the alarms blared, but by then, it was too late.

"Reinforced glass? Cutting corners on that was a mistake," he noted, watching as a Tyrant punched through the glass with ease, its second strike shattering it completely.

The freed Tyrants roared, wreaking havoc. Staff tried to flee, but those caught in the crossfire fell under the hail of gunfire as half the Tyrants had been armed with mini-guns.

"What's going on?" General Ross demanded, bewildered by the chaos.

"Sir, you need to leave immediately!" his men urged, but the stubborn general refused to budge.

"Typical military response time, though it's too late," Daniel mused. Had the Tyrants been unarmed, the fully equipped military forces would've easily contained them. But with rocket launchers,

Javelin missiles, and machine guns in their hands, the Tyrants inflicted heavy losses, taking out dozens of soldiers before they were finally subdued.

"This is why I could never go head-to-head with the military—far too costly," Daniel thought, satisfied. The chaos he had sown was enough. Ross's reputation was in tatters, and any hope of him rising again in the ranks was effectively crushed.

With the entire incident recorded, Daniel arranged for the footage to be anonymously leaked through the Red Queen's secure channels, ensuring the world would see the consequences of Ross's deadly ambitions.
