Chapter 864 - Chapter 864: Waite (Conclusion)

"Another me."

As Black Xier crushed the chair, Xier—alerted by Daniel Davis's reminder—finally realized what had been happening. Over the past few days, she'd been so excited by seeing Bronie that she'd spent every waking moment with her—even sleeping together—so much so that she had completely forgotten about her other self. Suddenly, she entered her own mental space, and to her astonishment, she saw this scene unfold.

That very scene confirmed what Daniel Davis had said. Xier had originally thought that Black Xier didn't care about her; after all, the gentle, warm-hearted Xier could never have detected the hidden meaning behind Black Xier's words.

"Why are you coming in?"

Already irritated, Black Xier's face immediately flushed with a mix of shame and anger upon seeing Xier enter. With a cold snort, she pretended not to care as she reset the chair to its original state, sitting down and looking at Xier coolly.

"Another me—I'm sorry. I've neglected you these past few days. I promise I won't do it again," Xier hurriedly apologized.

"Don't listen to his nonsense. I don't mind you. What are you doing, anyway? In fact, without you pestering me, I'd actually be enjoying some peace and quiet," Black Xier replied with a casual wave of her hand. Although she said it offhand, inside Black Xier was truly delighted by Xier's apology.

"Another me."

"Alright, that's enough. Now get out— I need some time alone."

Before Xier could reply further, Black Xier cut her off sharply, waving her hand to signal that she should leave. Realizing that Black Xier had no intention of talking, Xier fell silent and soon exited her mental space.

"Daniel Davis, I think I've made the other me mad," Xier said as soon as she was outside, recounting her conversation with Black Xier.

"Don't worry. She's just tsundere. Just keep talking with her often; you know, your personalities are actually opposites—yours is gentle on the outside but strong within, while hers is hard on the outside but soft inside. Beneath that fierce façade, she's actually very insecure," Daniel Davis explained, recounting everything he knew about Black Xier. With Xier's gentle nature, knowing these things in advance would help her avoid further issues.

Xier's eyes brightened with determination. "I understand, Daniel Davis. I'll have a proper talk with the other me—and introduce her to Bronie and the others as well."

"Good luck. I believe you two will get along just fine."

Daniel Davis, meanwhile, was also pondering ways to help Black Xier gain a proper body of her own. If possible, he even dreamed of salvaging some of the damage to the system—essentially, reshaping this world into one more to his liking. In this regard, one had to admire Otto; despite all the cruelty he had committed, he ultimately succeeded in remaking the world into his ideal form.

"Fu Hua… Otto really does treat her like nothing more than a tool. Poor class leader—she's just too honest. I wonder if, in the hands of someone else from the Flame Chasers, Otto would have been able to do the same," Daniel Davis mused.

During his days at St. Freya Academy, Daniel Davis had not seen the Red Kite Immortal Fu Hua—the one he most wanted to meet. According to records, Fu Hua was on a mission for Schicksal Headquarters. As an A-rank Valkyrie, Schicksal could dispatch her without even consulting Theresa. Honkai disasters occurred so frequently in this world that Fu Hua's deployments were hardly unusual.

Schicksal's Valkyries were classified into five ranks—from the highest, S, to the lowest, D. Only Valkyries who reached at least B rank were permitted to face Honkai at the frontlines; C- and D-rank Valkyries were relegated to logistical support. Himeko and Theresa would often threaten Kiana with demotion to C-rank if she didn't study hard. That threat had always worked—no matter how reluctant Kiana was, she had no choice but to attend remedial classes.

"This Honkai… it really leaves one speechless. It seems that virtual reality game companies can't do business here; they'll have to stick to ordinary game companies or animation studios."

While working as a doctor at the academy, Daniel Davis was also mulling over ways to make money. Now that he was serving as a doctor, it was merely a temporary arrangement for rights' sake—earning money for the future was essential. With the technology he possessed, making money would normally be easy. However, because of Honkai, many technologies simply couldn't be disseminated in this world.

Honkai was the enemy of civilization—its strength increased with the strength of civilization. Even though Schicksal and Anti-Entropy had their own virtual projection systems, these were only used within their organizations and never popularized. Just look at the games Bronie played; she still used a gamepad. The virtual projection system was mainly used for practical combat training.

Fortunately, the property that "the stronger the civilization, the stronger the Honkai" seemed to apply to the general populace, not to technology mastered by a few. Otherwise, technological progress would have come to a grinding halt.

Fu Hua's original "Seed of Fire" Project had failed because it had attempted to transmit previous civilization's technology to a feudal society, which then triggered the appearance of Judgment-class Honkai Beast Chi You.

Daniel Davis found Honkai's true purpose rather strange. One thing was for sure: Honkai was not solely intended to annihilate civilization. If that were the case, there would have been no need for a Ruler after another to appear—they'd all have met the end in one fell swoop.

Even stranger were the Rulers in this civilization. Their abilities differed too greatly from those of the previous civilization. If the Rulers of the previous civilization had been as mediocre as these, Kevin alone might have been able to take on the end times single-handedly.

And then there was the matter of ideology. Rulers fought for humanity in World War II—a scenario inconceivable in the previous civilization. But that might have been the problem of the previous civilization itself.

In light of this, Daniel Davis had no choice but to adapt to the local customs. He couldn't help but limit the proliferation of technology beyond the current level. Otherwise, wouldn't the Honkai eventually produce another Judgment-class beast? Schicksal would then come after him immediately. Otto, for his part, was always suppressing the spread of high technology.

"Is that an explosion? Is it coming from Kiana's dorm? Has someone attacked them?"

That night, while Daniel Davis continued his research on artificial Stigmata, he suddenly heard the sound of an explosion in the distance. Activating his Perception Haki, he immediately detected that Bronie and the others were engaged in combat. Without hesitation, Daniel Davis rushed out of his room toward Kiana's dorm.

"Die, you piece of trash!"

When Daniel Davis arrived on the scene, he saw Xier grinning excitedly as she manipulated a pair of blood-red claws, slamming one into a young man with short blue hair.

"No way—I am Lord Walter, the First Ruler! How could I lose to you, you little brat? I promised that Mother Cocolia would not let you be harmed. Now, go to hell! Eden's Star, a hundredfold gravity—under this hundredfold gravity, be reduced to mere fragments!"

The young man—who claimed to be Walter—was knocked aside. As he got up, wiping the blood from his lips, his face contorted in fury. With a wave of his hand, six black, seemingly black-hole-like spheres materialized around Xier. Instantly, the ground beneath Xier began to collapse under an invisible pressure.

As the self-proclaimed Walter laughed heartily at the sight, Xier's form suddenly blurred. When she reappeared, she was no longer in the collapsed area. Instead, her left claw shot out, grabbing hold of the laughing "Walter's" left arm.

In the next instant, his left arm was torn asunder, blood splattering everywhere as the black-red claw rended it apart.

"If you dare to hurt Xier, I won't let you off that easily," Xier declared, her right claw lashing out at Walter's right arm.

"Why, why… How could I lose to a mere Valkyrie? I am the First Ruler—I am god! I can't lose!" The dismembered Walter roared in madness. Then, the black sphere in his right palm erupted with potent Honkai energy, its volume expanding several times over to form a roughly two-meter-diameter ball, which blocked Xier's claw.

"Everyone, just go to hell!"

"Fire!"

As Walter bellowed and prepared to act, two voices suddenly rang out in the air. Two beams of light struck Walter's right arm simultaneously.

Boom!

Walter's right arm was struck, and the black sphere before him wavered violently. With a tremendous explosion, the sphere burst, its force warping the surrounding air. Xier's black-red claw was instantly obliterated, and as for Walter, his figure was reduced to a flash of light that shot off into the distance.

"This must be the so-called Waite," someone remarked. "What bad luck—he actually provoked Black Xier."

Judging by the red of Xier's eyes and the ferocity of her claws, it was unmistakable that this was Black Xier, not the gentle Xier.

Regarding the manipulation of her own Stigma, Black Xier was far more adept than Xier. Previously, when she had narrowly escaped Waite's hundredfold gravity attack, she had temporarily "quantumized" her body—rendering such forces completely harmless. With her current strength, Black Xier was not inferior to Schicksal's S-rank Valkyries.

As for the two beams of light that struck Walter's arm, they were the joint work of Bronie and Bronny. One had to admit, Waite's luck was unbelievably poor this time. When he first appeared, he was so arrogant that he used heavy gravity to slam Bronie's group to the ground.

He then destroyed Bronie's Heavy Weapon Bunny. Afterward, Xier leapt forward to protect Bronie—and was injured by the gravity assault. That single incident sent Black Xier into a rampage.

"Bronie, what happened here?"

Just as Daniel Davis was about to leave, someone beat him to it by leaping out. "Class leader, an enemy has invaded! They claim to be the First Ruler!"

It was Fu Hua. Clad in pajamas, she had barely had time to change before charging in—a testament to the famed Crimson Kite Immortal, whose reputation for swift action was unrivaled.

"First Ruler, report immediately to the Headmistress," Fu Hua said as she surveyed the scene of battle damage. Then, she swiftly helped lift Bronie, who lay prone on the ground.

"Looks like my work here is done."

With Fu Hua's arrival, Daniel Davis didn't appear; instead, he immediately gave chase in the direction Waite had fled. Though the final explosion was violent, Waite was not necessarily dead—and besides, Daniel Davis's Perception Haki had detected several figures pursuing him.

"How can I die in a place like this? I am the First Ruler, damn it! What on earth is Mother Cocolia up to?"

On the eastern edge of St. Freya Academy's forest, Waite—barely clinging to a tree trunk—looked furious and defiant.

"Mr. Walter, do you need assistance?"

Just then, a soft, feminine voice spoke from nearby.

"Einstein—can't you see my condition? Hurry up and help me get back to Anti-Entropy," Waite roared.

"What are you waiting for? Get over here!" Waite shouted, noticing that the newcomer was unresponsive. "Sorry, he's calling me."

At that moment, a deep voice resonated by Waite's side, and Waite felt a hand settle on his right shoulder. The newcomer was none other than the real Walter—who had been hiding at St. Freya Academy all along.

"Do you know? Under a thousandfold gravity, even light will vanish," the real Walter murmured.

Before Waite could respond, a black hole materialized beside him. In the blink of an eye—before he could react—his body was swallowed whole. When the black hole vanished, it left behind a pit more than ten meters deep.

"Mother Cocolia—she has perfected her clones to this extent…"

Staring at the pit before him, Walter sighed quietly. Yet moments later, his body suddenly went limp; he began coughing violently, blood trickling from his mouth.

"You really should take better care of yourself," someone said gently.

"Don't worry—I won't die until my objective is complete," Waite replied.

"Is that Mr. Yang? Why aren't you asleep? Sneaking around with a pretty lady?"

Amid a round of applause, Daniel Davis emerged.

"Dr. Davis—it's you! You saw everything,"

Walter, who had been weak moments before, immediately stood up and shielded Einstein behind him. Not surprisingly, he was a master of life and death.

"Of course. I never expected the Anti-Entropy leader to be teaching here at St. Freya Academy—it's quite surprising. I heard that Headmistress Theresa fought alongside you during the Second Honkai War, yet she didn't recognize you. That's simply inexcusable," Daniel Davis remarked, leaving Walter momentarily speechless. In truth, Walter hadn't expected to infiltrate St. Freya Academy so easily—later, even Tesla would have cursed Theresa's oversight.

"Dr. Davis, are you one of Otto's men?" Walter then asked bluntly. If Daniel Davis was Otto's, Walter would have no choice but to leave St. Freya—and eliminating Dr. Davis was not on Walter's agenda.

The reason he had so decisively disposed of Waite earlier was because that was Walter's clone—a desecration of Walter. (Here, "Walter" refers to the true Walter, the First Ruler; the current Walter's name is inherited—he is the Second Ruler.)

"Not at all. Otto doesn't have the authority to command me yet. As for my origins—since it doesn't hurt to share—I'm a traveler from a world bubble in the Quantum Sea. I'm sure you've already guessed something about that, Mr. Walter," Dr. Davis explained.

"So Bronie really is from a world bubble?"

The appearance of the two Bronies—although for public relations they were introduced as sisters—was known by Walter to be the true origin of Bronie: an orphan adopted by Mother Cocolia.
