Genin Sunagakure calculated everything correctly and decided to act for sure, but Hoshi was already ready and instead of trying to defend herself or avoid the attack, she grabbed a small scroll with one hand and vertically unfolded it in front of her, putting her free palm to the drawing on the back side.
A string of symbols with a void in the center on the other side of the paper glowed and a moment before the wave reached Hoshi began to suck in the technique she had applied, forming "Fu" characters from the air in the very center.
I didn't see the latter, but I had a good idea of the whole process as I prepared my students scrolls with seals of absorption of all elements except Doton.
No sooner had Suna's kunoichi come out of her stupor, seeing her strongest attack disappear without a trace, than she had to defend herself:
- Katon: Ryuka no Jutsu (Fire Release: Dragon Flame Technique)! - Quickly and habitually folding her hand seals, Hoshi blew out a large club of flame that formed into a sort of dragon-like shape, sending it at the enemy.
Weeks of training over the past month and increased control over the elemental had not gone to waste - the speed of execution was top notch. Suna's kunoichi, who hadn't expected such a swift response after the attack failed, panicked and retreated, waved her weapon, sending several air blades, but only further inflated the jutsu and lost extra moments, and when she realized that she couldn't avoid the oncoming wave of fire, she suddenly coiled the fan to a single section and swung down, raising dust clouds and throwing herself above the oncoming technique.
She had every chance to succeed, avoiding the attack and landing on the other side, if another fire technique had been used, but my choice was this one for a reason - with a single movement of her hand, Hoshi changed the direction of the dragon's movement and directed it upwards, directly at the kunoichi who was in the air above it.
The girl only had time to open her fan to its full width in a weak attempt to defend herself before she was engulfed in flames. A pain-filled scream echoed over the arena, and then the student dispelled the jutsu, clearly not wanting to kill the kunoichi from the allied village.
The burned but still alive carcass fell to the ground, still moaning weakly, and the student leaned tiredly on her knees, having used up nearly a third of her chakra at a time.
That's how it was, no exertion, no unnecessary risk, only preliminary reconnaissance of the enemy's capabilities, a clear plan of action in every possible situation and many days of practicing these plans in practice. That's why Hoshi already defeated his second opponent in just a few dozen seconds from the beginning of the fight.
The stands erupted in applause, and the jonin who had appeared raised his student's hand.
- The winner is Hoshi from Konohagakure no Sato!
- Well done! - Shenesu couldn't contain his emotions, jumping to his feet and clapping vigorously.
