Chapter 843 - Chapter 83

Taking the square of paper, Orochimaru slapped it onto his hand with a pulse of chakra and watched with interest as it crumbled and burned, revealing fire and earth.

- Ryo-kun, I have a couple more whole death row inmates downstairs, just recently delivered from Konoha Prison, would you mind showing me your findings?

- Ahem, Orochimaru-san, we met today to exchange ninjutsu," he cleared his throat suggestively.

The snake sannin blinked perplexedly, coming out of his research frenzy.

- I apologize, sometimes I get like that," he nodded and pulled out a scroll from his vest pocket, "these are the ninjutsu you requested.

- Thank you," I accepted the scroll and handed Orochimaru my own, "and these are the ninjutsu you requested.

Orochimaru took it, and we almost synchronously unfolded the paper, quickly ran our eyes over it, then rolled it up and nodded to each other in satisfaction. Naturally, we'll check them on the range and not in person - a healthy paranoia even with allies prolongs life, because with some people you don't need enemies. Nara and Uzumaki learned this from their own experience.

- And now...," Orych said meaningfully, nodding toward the stairs to the basement.

Nodding, I finished the remaining tea in my cup and stood up, crunching my neck. Is it time for Orochimaru's class?

Following my master down the stone staircase, which must have been made by machinery, judging by its general crudeness, I found myself in a spacious hall lit only by a few lamps, but even that was enough light to make out desks with piles of papers, two personal computers, now turned off, lined along the walls with huge apparatuses that flickered with lights, of which I recognized only the X-ray machine.

And at the far end, four bodies of men in their twenties and thirties, literally chained to operating tables, were fixed under powerful directional lights, with life support and diagnostic machines next to each.

The fact that shinobi mostly use chakra for healing doesn't mean that they should abandon equipment produced in just a few cities in elemental countries where the industrial level is much more advanced.

I have a similar one from Snow Country standing in my lab, only a bit more tricked out. The snake sannin's finances aren't exactly spoiled by old farts.
