As William eavesdropped outside the study, he was elated to learn that the two Hammer brothers each had bearer checks worth billions of dollars, along with an unknown quantity of antiques. He hadn't expected to profit so handsomely from his mission to send the Hammer family to meet Satan—what an unexpected bonus. Without hesitation, he used Mage Hand to unlock the study door and stepped inside.
Brown Hammer, sitting directly opposite the door, froze in shock at the sight of William, who was dressed in black, with a black motorcycle helmet and gloves.
"Who are you? How did you get in here?" Brown stammered in terror, reaching under his desk for the alarm button.
Unfortunately for him, William raised his hand and twisted his wrist midair. With a sickening crack, Brown's arm broke as if by an invisible force.
Turning his palm toward the younger Hammer brother, who was rushing toward him, William unleashed a force that slammed the man face-first into the carpet with the impact of a bear's paw.
Brown screamed in pain, only for William to casually lift him by the collar and toss him onto the rug in the center of the study. Using his mental powers, William scanned the room, quickly locating two hidden cameras. Following their wiring, he found the surveillance server, placed his hand on it, and sent a surge of electricity through it.
The server sizzled as its components fried. Still not satisfied, William stored the server in his spatial storage for good measure. After scanning again to confirm there were no additional recording devices, he smiled, lifted the visor of his helmet, and approached the writhing Brown on the carpet. He drove his boot into the older man's leg with a crack, eliciting another howl of pain.
Fortunately, the study appeared to be well-insulated for discussing sensitive matters, and there were no guards stationed outside. Thus, no matter how loudly Brown and his elder son screamed, no one came to their aid.
William walked over to the younger Hammer brother, who was still frozen in place on the sofa, and extended a hand. "Good evening, Mr. Little Hammer. Would you be so kind as to hand over the keys and codes you're holding?"
"No!" Brown roared through his pain, shouting at his younger son, "Destroy the codes now!"
But the younger Hammer was far more pragmatic than his father. Trembling, he handed over the box containing the bank keys and codes to William.
"Thank you for your cooperation," William said with a mocking smile, nodding to the terrified man. Just as the younger Hammer thought he had bought his survival, William grabbed him by the collar with his left hand, crushing both his hands with his right. Without a word, he hurled him into a suddenly appearing golden portal.
Seeing the electric sparks from William's hands and the glowing portal that had swallowed his younger son, Brown trembled in horror. "My God, what kind of monster are you?"
"Thanks for the compliment," William quipped, grinning. He turned to the elder Hammer brother, seized his collar, and summoned the second box from his pocket with a simple gesture. The box flew into William's hand.
After confirming its contents, William stored it in his spatial storage while the two remaining Hammers stared in terror. "Thanks for cooperating, Mr. Hammer. It's time for you to join your brother. Goodbye."
He crushed the elder son's hands as well and flung him into the portal.
"Now it's just us, Mr. Brown Hammer," William said, turning his gaze to the patriarch. "Do me a favor—cancel the assassination order on me and my mother. Maybe I'll spare your other relatives."
Brown, lying flat on his back and staring at the ceiling, coughed and sneered. "You came here tonight with the same intent I have. Don't lie."
From the moment William had entered without a word and started attacking, Brown knew there would be no peaceful resolution. He also suspected his sons were not just "somewhere else." And seeing William's glowing hands and strange powers, Brown realized his family had no chance of survival.
But Brown had one final card to play. He grinned through his pain, coughing blood as he rasped, "You're too late, William Devonshire. The contract is already in place. Soon, the world's greatest assassins will hunt you and your mother to the ends of the earth. We'll meet in Hell soon enough."
"The world's greatest assassins?" William laughed softly, grabbing Brown by the hair and lifting him off the ground. "The Assassin Brotherhood doesn't scare me. As for your friend Sloan, he'll be joining you soon enough."
"You... you know about them?" Brown stammered, his confidence shaken. Seeing William's unflinching demeanor and extraordinary abilities, he began to doubt the Brotherhood's chances against someone so prepared.
Just then, Sunday's voice rang in William's earpiece. "Sir, security is patrolling this way."
Without hesitation, William dragged Brown into the golden portal. On the other side, they emerged in an abandoned mine in Oxford, England. William closed the portal and threw Brown onto the ground.
A few illumination spells later, the pitch-black mine lit up. Then, with yellow light glowing around his hands, William moved them in sweeping gestures. The walls of the deep coal pit began to smooth and harden as the ground rumbled.
Floating in midair thanks to a levitation spell, William smiled at the terrified Hammer patriarch and his two sons, who were sprawled on the ground. "Welcome to my dumping ground, Mr. Hammer. Enjoy your remaining days with no light, no water, no food, and no escape. Let's see how long it takes for desperation to set in."
Ignoring Brown's curses and his elder son's desperate offers of money, William prepared to leave. Even though he wasn't short on cash, he refused to take their wealth—it would attract suspicion about their disappearance.
However, just as he turned to leave, his gaze fell on the younger Hammer, who remained silent even after having his hands crushed. His calm, hateful stare made William pause.
This one seemed unnervingly composed. Could he become a problem later?
Before he could think twice, William raised his hand.
The younger Hammer's calm facade finally broke into fear. "Don't kill me! I can—"
"Blame your father for wanting me dead," William said coldly, cutting him off. With a snap of his fingers, the younger Hammer slumped lifelessly to the ground.
"NO! NO! NO!" Brown screamed, crawling toward his son.
Watching the grief-stricken father, William felt a flicker of hesitation. But he shook his head. Enough complications—best to finish it cleanly.
"Goodbye," he said, waving his hand. The walls of the mine began to close in as he floated away.
