Chapter 712 - Chapter 712: Don’t Mistake a Mage for a Warrior

"Thor, God of Thunder?" William looked up at the ceiling of the control room. Waiting for a response, he then added tentatively, "Or perhaps Loki, God of Mischief?"

As soon as he spoke, a rainbow-colored beam of light materialized on the bridge. Thor, clad in armor and a crimson cape, wielding his iconic hammer, appeared alongside Loki, wearing his signature horned helmet and a green cloak.

"Tell me, Midgardian," Thor demanded, his gaze piercing. "How do you know our names?" He turned to the Yautja leader with a fierce glare. "And you—how dare you seek out and harbor Moven beasts, those bloodthirsty, savage creatures? Do you intend to turn yourselves into monsters, using their power to wreak havoc?"

"Thor," Loki interrupted with a sigh, glancing at his brother. "They are Yautja warriors, not the black-armored Berserker Yautja."

"Huh?" Thor, startled by Loki's correction, scrutinized the Yautja leader's complexion more carefully. Realizing his mistake, he offered an awkward smile.

Turning his focus back to William, Thor repeated, "Answer me, Midgardian."

Caught off guard, William hesitated. Over the past year, after meeting Tony Stark and feeling relatively weak, he had consciously avoided seeking out or learning about the superhuman beings in this world. His plan had been to use the next seven or eight years to quietly build his strength and influence.

By the time the Marvel movie plotlines began to unfold, he hoped he would already be a major player in this world. But now, a single probing remark had drawn both Thor and Loki to him unexpectedly.

As Thor's expression grew darker, William sighed. "Can I just say it was a random guess? I didn't expect you to actually exist, let alone show up like this."

To demonstrate his intentions, William raised a hand and traced a circle in the air, conjuring a golden, fan-like construct of magical energy.

"A sorcerer of the arcane arts?" Loki asked, intrigued.

"No," William replied, dismissing the fan with a flick of his hand. "I'm not one of those mages who has to pay a price for casting a few spells."

Opening both hands, he conjured a display of fire and frost, shifting between forms in his palms. Finally, he shaped them into fiery and icy figures resembling Thor and Loki themselves.

Thor, ignorant of magical nuances, seemed merely curious, but Loki was visibly impressed—and alarmed. That William could wield two opposing elements simultaneously, and with no apparent cost, was astonishing.

In Asgard, magic existed but was overshadowed by their warrior culture. Loki's mind immediately began scheming ways to learn some of William's magical techniques.

"Even if you are a mage," Loki said, "it doesn't explain how you know the names of two Asgardians who haven't been to Midgard in nearly a millennium. And where did you learn your magic?"

William frowned. "It's rather rude to pry into someone else's secrets, Prince Loki. All I'll say is that I'm not your enemy."

"That remains to be seen," Loki replied, smirking.

William, always alert, felt a surge of magical energy from Loki. His eyes instinctively absorbed the magic, allowing him to see the flow of energy. To his astonishment, a humanoid figure composed entirely of magic separated itself from Loki's body and stood still, while Loki himself became invisible and began to circle toward William.

As Loki crept closer, dagger in hand, William realized the still figure was a magical decoy, while the real Loki approached under the guise of invisibility.

For reasons he didn't yet understand, William's eyes, infused with magic, allowed him to see through Loki's invisibility with ease.

Loki froze when he noticed William's gaze tracking his every move. His heart raced in disbelief. How is this Midgardian seeing through my invisibility?

A ripple of magic revealed Loki as he dropped his cloaking spell. "You can see me?" he asked, astonished.

"Apparently," William replied, equally surprised. "The magical energy around you is so obvious it's like a glowing beacon. I couldn't ignore it if I tried."

"Ha!" Thor bellowed with laughter, clearly enjoying Loki's discomfort. "I've told you countless times to abandon your tricks and fight like me! That's the only way to gain true respect."

Tossing his hammer in the air and catching it, Thor pointed it at William. "You may have bested Loki's magic, but I am not like him. Now, tell me the truth, Midgardian, or I will beat you until you beg to reveal it."

William narrowed his eyes, his earlier excitement over his newfound magical sight giving way to caution. This Thor isn't the wiser, restrained version from later. He's arrogant, impulsive, and always spoiling for a fight.

Acknowledging the vast difference in their physical strength, William knew he stood no chance in close combat. He decided it was time to show Thor the consequences of underestimating a mage.

Without a word, William conjured two magical ropes, which appeared in his hands and lashed out at Thor and Loki.

Thor shattered his rope with a swing of Mjolnir, while Loki sidestepped his, leaving it to bind his decoy.

For the first time, the two brothers felt genuinely insulted. A Midgardian had dared to attack them both at the same time.

"Ahhh!" Thor roared, leaping into the air with his hammer raised to strike William.

Predicting Thor's reaction, William smirked and traced a circle with his hands. A shimmering, crystalline barrier materialized in front of Thor, forcing him to halt mid-charge.

Before Thor could retreat, the barrier pulsed outward with magical energy, pulling both him and Loki into a mirrored dimension.

Inside the mirrored space, Thor and Loki stood back-to-back, scanning their surroundings warily. After several tense seconds with no apparent threat, Thor hurled Mjolnir at the ship's walls, attempting to break through.

But as Mjolnir sped forward, the surrounding space reversed itself, pulling the hammer back. The harder Thor pushed, the faster the space corrected itself.

"It's useless, Thor," Loki observed. "This space appears to be entirely under that Midgardian's control. Unless you can shatter dimensional barriers, your strength is meaningless here."

"I despise mages," Thor growled. "Always hiding behind their mysticism, too cowardly to fight directly!"
